Halloween Haunting 101: Let’s Have Another Scream

Oh, these awkward pauses in between posts has to end!

I do have legit excuses though. We went through that terrible hurricane by the name of Irma two weeks ago (direct hit!), and we went 11 days without power! I have always been thankful for modern luxuries but good god do you become a cult-like follower of electricity when you’ve gone without for so long!

Regardless! I’m back and have some fun stuff to share!

First of all, I’ve confirmed that I will be reviving the ancient Seado tradition of the annual Halloween SoireΓ©. We are having a KILLER PARTY this year!

PartyMovie.jpg

As you know, I try to incorporate a theme for our parties every year. This time I went for a not so blatant Halloween theme and instead opted to celebrate traditional Slasher cinema.

This year’s party theme is a celebration of the classic horror slasher genre. The invite announcement above I designed to look like an 80’s/90’s horror film poster. I’m a huge fan of a good Teen Scream and I thought this would be the perfect revival for our tradition!

I also set up a video invite and a website for potential guests to go to! Check it out!

http://www.haveascreamwith.us

There’s a few details I will keep a secret for now as they’re a part of the twists and turns I’m putting together for my unsuspecting guests. πŸ™‚ But! Favors and DIY projects are already on my plate for this coming week! I’ll walk through some awesome ideas for decor and guest presents next weekend!

What’s your big plan for Halloween this year? Party? Trip? Tell me all about it!Β

Until next time!

Nefarious News: R.L. Stine & Fox Producing 3 “Fear Street” Movies

That fucking headline says it all!

Can you tell i’m excited? πŸ™‚

I heard the news last night via the Twitter grapevine.

Screen Shot 2017-07-18 at 8.56.02 AM.png

This moment was so long overdue! My sister and I have been pondering the greatest question in life for years: “Why the fuck haven’t they made a ‘Fear Street’ movie?!”, and finally it’s come to be. Three times over!

My reaction was of course subtle.

Screen Shot 2017-07-18 at 8.56.21 AM.png

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is being written and directed by Leigh Janiak, the director of the indie horror flickΒ Honeymoon. Apparently the idea was in the works some time ago as there was a script written… somewhere… catching dust. Needless to say, Fox is going full force with the project now and in a big way. The studio is demanding that all three of the films be completed by Janiak back to back, with release dates in the span of a few months of each other.

This is a pretty hefty job if Fox is insistent on that time table.

But, details are sure to change as this project is lifted off the ground. The movies are still in pre-production and anything could happen in these early stages! I just hope that these aren’t cranked out without any regard for the quality.

I mean, this is Fear Street we’re talking about.

Now my biggest question is what three books they’re going to be choosing for the films. I have a sneaking suspicion it’s going to be one of the trilogies…

Maybe Cheerleaders?

junk2

Maybe the Saga books?

Who knows! Even though those trilogies spanned into the realm of “sagas” after a while, It’s still a definite possibility. I can’t fucking wait for more details to emerge! πŸ™‚

So, tell me: Are you excited to see a Fear Street movie? Which books were your faves and which do you hope they’ll adapt? Also, who should be the main players??

Until next time!

That’s a Wrap: Farewell, George Romero

I spent my Sunday watching home haunt documentaries, that I fully intended to write-up on Vespertine House this evening. At some point in the last one I watched, I found myself rolling my eyes at yet another zombie-themed haunt.

I then had a moment of reflection on the modern-day zombie renaissance we’ve had the last few years. It seems that everywhere you look there are zombies.

We see them shambling out of the Halloween and Horror niches and into everyday life. They’ve invaded our television sets, music, fashion, games– even quirky bumper stickers have a booming zombie-loving demographic. Ultimately I shook my head and murmured “people and their fucking zombies”.

Of all days to have such a thought, it had to be the day that the father of the modern-day zombie passed away.

From what started as Barbara’s screams in an old cemetery in 1968, and ended with another Trixie virus outbreak in 2010, George Romero proved again and again that he could orchestrate zombie fear amongst the masses with the utmost finesse.

Romero adapted the zombie creature and its origins to fit a more modern-day audience. His concept was far removed from the original Voodoo zombie seen in classic Horror films like “I Walked With a Zombie”. His formula has stood the test of time as it’s applied in the majority of the zombie Horror we see today.

I’m happy to say that I learned a lot about good cinema from watching his films. I also learned that it’s good to not be serious about everything all the time and that you can absolutely serve up your Horror with a side of fun.

It’s with a sad keystroke that I say goodbye to yet another film legend. But I’m happy to know that he will never be forgotten.

So, the next time a zombie shuffles across a silver screen or a protagonist nervously discovers that a strange virus is bringing the dead back to life, smile and think of George. His greatest gift is the incredible Horror legacy that he’s left us with.

Sweet Spooks: Happy Valentine’s Day

I sincerely hope everyone is having thee best Valentine’s Day!πŸ’œ

Personally, I just woke up, and with a migraine at that so I’m struggling a little bit. πŸ˜”

On the upside! The Valentine’s Day look I promised is here and ready to be loved by you!

Love her, dammit.😏πŸ”ͺ

VIDEO: Upclose look

Backstory: This look is inspired by the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland with a little bit of tragic romance at play. She tried to escape the story and chase her heart’s desire only to end up as a victim of her own doing. Deep shit right? 😌 I know.

I really loved working on this as it was my first original in a long time. I am also so proud of how clean the effects in this look came out. I did such a great job of painting and blending that’s it very near seamless here!πŸ˜€ also, one of a few times when I’ve actually been completely in love with a beauty makeup! I feel the red and gold feathered cheeks are messy and perfect all at once. I just love it. β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œπŸ’œ

PHOTO: The process

To accomplish this look I used Mehron’s Starblend Cake in White to block out her skin in that porcelain color (btw, I’m in LOVE with the Starblend cake as of late. I really need to order several more in other shades because it just paints so freakin’ well!πŸ˜€πŸ’œπŸ’œ), Devinah Cosmetics Eyeshadows in Blazed, #Fierce, Daybreak (two unlabeled copper Browns that make me so sad that I don’t remember which they are 😫) and the Arcadia highlighter, and the lovely bit of gold feathered on the cheeks and used to gradient her lips is a Limited Edition Highlighter from Bitter Lace Beauty called Sweater Weather. For the  SFX stuff, you’re looking at shredded book pages for the under-skin (don’t worry, it was a terrible book πŸ˜‚ and i loved the effect it gave this look!), tissue paper for the ripped skin, two thin layers of wax to hold and give dimension to the two cut playing cards used. I also used a bit of black silicone based slime to add thick dimension to the theatre blood!☺️

So, no, I haven’t yet graduated from using basic powders for SFX makeup, but! I will say that the Mehron is a good start as it’s used mainly as a wet-to-dry, and I’ve learned how to work the opaqueness of the makeup based on water usage. ☺️ In June, for my birthday I’m hoping I will be able to purchase myself one of the PPI Skin Illustrator Pallettes to start using alcohol activated real-deal SFX makeup! πŸ˜ŒπŸ’œ

I think I’m ready for it!

So! I hope you guys like this look! πŸ˜€πŸ’œ I think it’s lovely and is romantic and gruesome enough to make Valentine’s Day completely tolerable. ☺️πŸ”ͺ

Also! If you’re on Twitter be sure to follow me @Sarahseado if you’d like to keep updated with videos of SFX stuff! My LIVE periscope tutorials broadcast on there as well! If you have periscope don’t be shy! Send me your handle so that I can start doing live Vespertine House SFX parties with giveaways n shit! πŸ˜€πŸ’œβ˜ΊοΈ

So tell me, what’re you doing for Valentine’s Day? What did you think of this makeup? What else do you want to see in the future? Love you dearly, and you’re definitely my Valentine today. πŸ˜ŒπŸ’œπŸ”ͺ

Sweet Spooks: A Refresher in Burns

I haven’t been ignoring you’ve, I’ve just been swept in a whirlwind of asinine things. πŸ˜‘

You know how it goes.

Anyways! I hope you guys have been well! I’m doing alright, typical days follow over here- job hunting, naps, working, more naps…

My butt hurts, and I need a nap.

πŸ˜€All is right in the world!

I haven’t had any inspiration to do any makeups since last fall and it’s been killing me. πŸ˜”

Fortunately, the wheels began turning once more, and I decided to refresh my makeup phalanges with a basic burn on Sarah Jr.!

This was fun and I was able to use some of the Devinah Cosmetics for the entire paint! They’re really brilliantly pigmented and worked so well for this! 😍

I need to work on physiology and the human anatomy aspect of my makeups because I can never get a dental piece to sit naturally. πŸ˜©πŸ˜”

A work in progress I reckon!

I plan on doing another makeup very soon especially for Valentine’s Day! 😏

So what have you guys been up to? What are you planning for V Day? I still love You.πŸ’œ

Halloween Haunting 101: ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ Bingo (Download Available!)Β

Well, I mentioned in one of my last posts that I was considering revisiting my Scavenger Hunt stuff as I just wasn’t sure if I’d have time to do the elaborate version I originally thought up.

So! ☺️

I came up with something different.

I felt that if I couldn’t do the Scavenger Hunt I wanted I wasn’t going to do one at all. I also really kinda wanted to do a game of Bingo but never picked up a set this year, so I came up with my own.☺️ One that somewhat combines the scavenging of a Scavenger Hunt and the game aspect of bingo!

Behold: “Trick ‘r Treat” Bingo!πŸ˜†πŸŽƒ

Last night I worked on putting this game together (the above is a mockup for display purposes as I didn’t want my guests to see the squares yet 😏). It works like bingo where players need to get a row, corners, or clear the card entirely to win. The players must watch the movie and mark their squares as scenes that match their squares come up. β˜ΊοΈπŸŽƒ

My game set has 4 different cards available and three ways to win! πŸŽ‰πŸ‘»πŸŽ‰πŸŽƒ if there’s a tie in the end for the big prize, I’ll do some movie trivia as Trick ‘r Treat is one of my favorites ever!

Now, because I’m a nice person and I like you all, πŸ’œπŸŽƒπŸ’œ I’m making this game available for free download! πŸ˜€πŸŽ‰πŸŽƒ You can get a PDF of all the cards, ready to print, at my Dropbox link below. β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ

https://www.dropbox.com/s/w867nkm5zcbxyrq/trick%20r%20treat%20bingo.pdf?dl=0

Are you going to play this for Halloween or before Halloween? What do you think of the idea? What other movies would you like to see this bingo game created for? πŸ‘»

Sweet Spooks: “Plagued Doctor” SFX MakeupΒ

I have had the strangest bit of luck as of late. 😳

First my knee gets smashed, and tonight I stepped outside for a few minutes only to have my foot stung by a very hateful bee!

A bee! 🐝

The only stinging creature I go out of my way to protect! 😦

It was my first bee sting! I’ve been stung by wasps but this was new. Suffice it to say, my left foot is swollen and my right knee is still healing. πŸ˜”

On the upside! I was able to do a new makeup inspired by the swollen little welt on top of my foot. ☺️

I imagine being a plague Doctor has its disadvantages… πŸ’€

Catching the plague for one.☺️

This was a complete mess to put together and it really looked pretty gross by the end. I wish the wax had behaved better as I would have been able to paint the buboes a deeper black and feathered it out more.

I used actual black slime for the drippy bits you see and for the black drippy bits on the mask. I made the mask myself with a blank plague Doctor mask from the craft store, some safety pins, and liquid latex as glue. ☺️

End result was good, and had I used more wax to make more blisters, I’m sure this would have been ultra disgusting! β˜ΊοΈπŸ˜‚πŸ’€

Overall, only an hour of work and super simple to throw together. ☺️

So, what do you think? Gross? Effective? I do love your comments. πŸ’œ also, I’m currently trying to come up with new ideas for makeup. I’m all ears if you’d like to tell me about what spooks you… β˜ΊοΈπŸŽƒπŸ’€πŸ’œ
