Get Excited: 100 Days to Halloween Giveaway!

It’s that day again!

One of many best moments of the year where we cross the threshold from a 3-digit countdown to a 2-digit countdown!

Get excited.

So, to mark the occasion, I’m spending the day watching a few Halloween favorites. Right now, I’m 40 minutes into Halloweentown and I’m already panicking over my lack of definitive plans for Halloween.

I’m very much considering seeing a psychic to give me the scoop as I’m terrible at decisions and this is the most important day of the year we’re talking about.

As we begin the official countdown, let’s discuss your favorite Halloween activities!

What are you most looking forward to as we get closer to the haunting holiday? What’s your favorite candy? What’re you dressing up as?? So many questions so little time!Β

Share your answers in the comments below! I’ll randomly select one person to receive a Halloween themed mystery prize. Could be treats… could be tricks… πŸ™‚ Β Sadly this is this is open to U.S. residents only– I’m so sorry! But don’tΒ letΒ that deter you from sharing your excitement with us. πŸ™‚

Until next time!

Nefarious News: R.L. Stine & Fox Producing 3 “Fear Street” Movies

That fucking headline says it all!

Can you tell i’m excited? πŸ™‚

I heard the news last night via the Twitter grapevine.

Screen Shot 2017-07-18 at 8.56.02 AM.png

This moment was so long overdue! My sister and I have been pondering the greatest question in life for years: “Why the fuck haven’t they made a ‘Fear Street’ movie?!”, and finally it’s come to be. Three times over!

My reaction was of course subtle.

Screen Shot 2017-07-18 at 8.56.21 AM.png

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is being written and directed by Leigh Janiak, the director of the indie horror flickΒ Honeymoon. Apparently the idea was in the works some time ago as there was a script written… somewhere… catching dust. Needless to say, Fox is going full force with the project now and in a big way. The studio is demanding that all three of the films be completed by Janiak back to back, with release dates in the span of a few months of each other.

This is a pretty hefty job if Fox is insistent on that time table.

But, details are sure to change as this project is lifted off the ground. The movies are still in pre-production and anything could happen in these early stages! I just hope that these aren’t cranked out without any regard for the quality.

I mean, this is Fear Street we’re talking about.

Now my biggest question is what three books they’re going to be choosing for the films. I have a sneaking suspicion it’s going to be one of the trilogies…

Maybe Cheerleaders?

junk2

Maybe the Saga books?

enhanced-buzz-orig-10529-1371682725-8

Who knows! Even though those trilogies spanned into the realm of “sagas” after a while, It’s still a definite possibility. I can’t fucking wait for more details to emerge! πŸ™‚

So, tell me: Are you excited to see a Fear Street movie? Which books were your faves and which do you hope they’ll adapt? Also, who should be the main players??

Until next time!

That’s a Wrap: Farewell, George Romero

I spent my Sunday watching home haunt documentaries, that I fully intended to write-up on Vespertine House this evening. At some point in the last one I watched, I found myself rolling my eyes at yet another zombie-themed haunt.

I then had a moment of reflection on the modern-day zombie renaissance we’ve had the last few years. It seems that everywhere you look there are zombies.

We see them shambling out of the Halloween and Horror niches and into everyday life. They’ve invaded our television sets, music, fashion, games– even quirky bumper stickers have a booming zombie-loving demographic. Ultimately I shook my head and murmured “people and their fucking zombies”.

Of all days to have such a thought, it had to be the day that the father of the modern-day zombie passed away.

From what started as Barbara’s screams in an old cemetery in 1968, and ended with another Trixie virus outbreak in 2010, George Romero proved again and again that he could orchestrate zombie fear amongst the masses with the utmost finesse.

Romero adapted the zombie creature and its origins to fit a more modern-day audience. His concept was far removed from the original Voodoo zombie seen in classic Horror films like “I Walked With a Zombie”. His formula has stood the test of time as it’s applied in the majority of the zombie Horror we see today.

I’m happy to say that I learned a lot about good cinema from watching his films. I also learned that it’s good to not be serious about everything all the time and that you can absolutely serve up your Horror with a side of fun.

It’s with a sad keystroke that I say goodbye to yet another film legend. But I’m happy to know that he will never be forgotten.

So, the next time a zombie shuffles across a silver screen or a protagonist nervously discovers that a strange virus is bringing the dead back to life, smile and think of George. His greatest gift is the incredible Horror legacy that he’s left us with.

In other news, I’m so honored to have been nominated by the lovely Anna over at Bee Beauty for the Beauty Blogger Award! This is my second blogger award nom and I’m super proud! Thank you, Miss Anna! Go have a peek at Anna’s blog– You can thank me later!πŸ’œ

Here’s my Q&A for this:

  • How long have you been blogging?

Not too long! I’ve been blogging on and off for years, and have failed many times at having a successful blog, lol Vespertine House, however has been remarkably successful and that makes me sublimely happy!πŸ˜ƒ

  • Favorite makeup brand of all time?

Hmm, I’d have to say E.L.F. Cosmetics actually! They’re quite cost effective and I’ve never had issues with their products! They make up the bulk of my foundational cosmetic supplies! I will say that in regards to pigments and the like, MAC and Ulta’s store brand are pretty high up there too! Great selection from them!

  • Favorite beauty blogger/vlogger?

Definitely Mykie at Glam & Gore! I love all of her SFX tutorials and her videos are really just entertaining! She’s awesome.πŸ’œ

  • What’s your favorite type of blog to post?

Hmm, I love doing my “Sweet Spooks” SFX posts! Although, they’re very time consuming what with all the makeuping and all lol. But! They seem to get the most feedback and I love that everyone enjoys them!πŸ’œ

  • What do you enjoy outside of blogging (i.e. hobbies)?

I love to sleep. Haha! That should totally be a hobby as I would be so pro at it! I do needlepoint and I enjoy creative writing when the mood strikes me, as well as painting and music. I actually started writing a book! With chapters and everything! Completely inspired by true events! But I have yet to finish it. I dabble in a lot of things I reckon.☺️

  • Meaning behind your blog name?

“Vespertine House” is supposed to mean a dominion that flourishes in the evening. The word “Vespertine” is an archaic term for “blooming in the late evening, or at dusk”. It’s one that we don’t use anymore but I simply love the word so I brought it back! lol, I added the “house” as it makes it feel more like a closed group and gives it a bit of exclusivity. The same way big fashion houses are called “houses”. I imagine as a whole, the name denotes a close knit group that comes alive after dark. Creepy, no? Yeah, I know you like that. lol😏

  • What inspires you?

Everything! I can be inspired by anything from the people around me to something I see in passing. Typically I get most of my best ideas from staring at the white abyss that is my ceiling above my bed haha.☺️

  • Favorite show?

Hmm, I love Doctor Who and I love BTVS. I spend most nights watching repeats of Night Gallery and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour which is awesome. I’ve also been regularly watching Catfish and Scream on MTV. I guess all of those are my faves!

  • The one thing that makes you happiest in the world?

Hmm, getting a full nights sleep and waking refreshed in the morning lol. It’s a rare, rare thing but when it happens it’s amazing.😁

  • Your best piece of advice to your fellow bloggers?

As someone who’s found several ways NOT to have a successful blog, but finally found the ONE way to have a successful blog, I think the best advice is to write for yourself and write about something you’re really, really into. I’ve written about stuff in the past that I thought I really enjoyed but I lost interest fast or worried that my opinion wasn’t advised well enough. It was a struggle and I failed at it of course. Now that I’ve found a way to vary my interests but still keep them relatively on topic (because i’m actually a weirdo by nature lol), I’ve been successful and have found a great audience of AMAZING people who make me feel humbled about my writing. And that’s the best! So, just write for you and your audience will find you.πŸ’œ

Alright! So! I nominate the following lovely beauty bloggers!

And my questions for you ladies…

  • Pick one Urban Decay or MAC? Which and why?
  • Favorite song right now?
  • Would you rather be famous for your blog or be famous for a talent you have (i.e. singing, dancing, art etc.)? Why
  • If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
  • Would you rather have the closet of your dreams, complete with every Louboutin and Ferragamo in history, or a private makeup studio in your house, complete with every Dior and MAC cosmetic in history? Which would you choose and why?

After Midnight No. 5

I fell asleep and woke up so disoriented about what day and time it was.

That’s how you know it’s a good nap.😏

Anyways, I spent some time on Pinterest looking at some of my boards and I had forgotten that I pinned this beauty.

Yes, that’s a vampire slaying kit from back in the day (although there’s always a chance this is a really amazing reproduction) and I need it! ☺️

image

Fun Fact: I am sanguivoriphobic, meaning I’m afraid of vampires. This fear stems from an amazing, obscure book I read called Vampires Are, by the late Dr. Stephen Kaplan.

Truth be told, I’ve always loved Cryptozoology, but I have a pretty sound interest in Vampirology. When possible I read as much on the subject as I can and have gathered a nice little library from it. ☺️

image

In other news, I also saw this on Pinterest and swooned a little. I think I might put one of these together to send to my Godfather up north. ☺️

image

I’m also considering maybe putting one together to send to one of my subscribers here on WordPress!

What do you guys think? Would it be neat to get one of these adorable countdown boxes?

I love you, and I hope you subscribe, so I can subscribe and stalk all your posts.❀️πŸ”ͺ😏

Look of The Day: Maneater

Aren’t you ecstatic that it’s Friday?!πŸŽ‰

Everyone gets excited for the weekend.

Anyways, I love putting together different looks on Polyvore based on my mood. Considering today is Friday and I’m having an abnormally okay day (it’s the blue moon, only once in a blue moon could the full moon swing my mood to a new level of happy), I decided that this is completely suitable.😏

Shop these items now at Polyvore!

I highly recommend taking your Maneater look to the next level with some buttons from Deer Heart! I often covet things on Instagram, @ShopDeerHeart’s stuff is no exception. Love their buttons and adorable magnets. If I were you, I’d snag some of these and pin them to the leg of my favorite leggings for some extra off-the-wall flair. Do it.πŸ˜†

No. 1

The macabre, dark, deviant and strange are words that categorize the most interesting and beautiful things in this universe. Fact.

I think a lot of people would agree with that.

Hi there! I’m Sarah and I have a taste for darker, stranger things. Shamelessly. 😁 I’m bringing this blog to you as a way to share my creepy finds and interests with a wider range of people. As far as tastes go, you can often find me researching something strange or making plans for Halloween.

Yes, regardless of the month or season, I’m nearly always planning for Halloween. ☺️

I want to use this space on the interweb to not only share the things I love but also keep a personal record for future reference. I’m a bit forgetful. 😏

So, to make this quick, here are a few things that you’re guaranteed to see here at some point:

  • Product reviews! (Seasonal Halloween products, makeup, jewelry, services etc!)
  • Top pick lists (oh, I love lists- they’re simple and fun!)
  • Tutorials (I create a lot of things for Halloween parties and just to satisfy my own dark little cravings; I’ll try to share these with you ☺️)
  • Fashion, Art, News & more! (Huzzah! πŸ˜†)

With that said, I hope you’ll stick around and join the conversation! I really look forward to meeting like-minded creepers and can’t wait to pick your brain! Literally…

Kidding!

But really… 😏πŸ”ͺ
