Sweet Spooks: Happy Valentine’s Day

I sincerely hope everyone is having thee best Valentine’s Day!πŸ’œ

Personally, I just woke up, and with a migraine at that so I’m struggling a little bit. πŸ˜”

On the upside! The Valentine’s Day look I promised is here and ready to be loved by you!

Love her, dammit.😏πŸ”ͺ

VIDEO: Upclose look

Backstory: This look is inspired by the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland with a little bit of tragic romance at play. She tried to escape the story and chase her heart’s desire only to end up as a victim of her own doing. Deep shit right? 😌 I know.

I really loved working on this as it was my first original in a long time. I am also so proud of how clean the effects in this look came out. I did such a great job of painting and blending that’s it very near seamless here!πŸ˜€ also, one of a few times when I’ve actually been completely in love with a beauty makeup! I feel the red and gold feathered cheeks are messy and perfect all at once. I just love it. β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œπŸ’œ

PHOTO: The process

To accomplish this look I used Mehron’s Starblend Cake in White to block out her skin in that porcelain color (btw, I’m in LOVE with the Starblend cake as of late. I really need to order several more in other shades because it just paints so freakin’ well!πŸ˜€πŸ’œπŸ’œ), Devinah Cosmetics Eyeshadows in Blazed, #Fierce, Daybreak (two unlabeled copper Browns that make me so sad that I don’t remember which they are 😫) and the Arcadia highlighter, and the lovely bit of gold feathered on the cheeks and used to gradient her lips is a Limited Edition Highlighter from Bitter Lace Beauty called Sweater Weather. For the  SFX stuff, you’re looking at shredded book pages for the under-skin (don’t worry, it was a terrible book πŸ˜‚ and i loved the effect it gave this look!), tissue paper for the ripped skin, two thin layers of wax to hold and give dimension to the two cut playing cards used. I also used a bit of black silicone based slime to add thick dimension to the theatre blood!☺️

So, no, I haven’t yet graduated from using basic powders for SFX makeup, but! I will say that the Mehron is a good start as it’s used mainly as a wet-to-dry, and I’ve learned how to work the opaqueness of the makeup based on water usage. ☺️ In June, for my birthday I’m hoping I will be able to purchase myself one of the PPI Skin Illustrator Pallettes to start using alcohol activated real-deal SFX makeup! πŸ˜ŒπŸ’œ

I think I’m ready for it!

So! I hope you guys like this look! πŸ˜€πŸ’œ I think it’s lovely and is romantic and gruesome enough to make Valentine’s Day completely tolerable. ☺️πŸ”ͺ

Also! If you’re on Twitter be sure to follow me @Sarahseado if you’d like to keep updated with videos of SFX stuff! My LIVE periscope tutorials broadcast on there as well! Sweet Spooks: Misc. Looks & Giveaway Winner!

So, this weekend was crazy fun! β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ

Did a lot of shopping with my dad and picked up some more Halloween necessities! πŸŽƒ

My knee was super sore after all that though. πŸ˜” it’s much better and nearly normal except for pain on the inner side. Sucks. But! I think it’ll be perfect in another couple weeks. ☺️

The last few nights I’ve been doing random things with SFX makeup. Really just keeping myself busy with nothing in mind. ☺️

Thought I’d share!

Now, nothing really notable for either of these, I just got bored and messed around lol. ☺️

I call the first look Tinder Predator and the second Just a Little Work Done. β˜ΊοΈπŸ˜€

Now! In more important news: the winner of the Halloween giveaway!

It was so awesome reading the responses to the contest! You guys are the best! πŸ’œβ˜ΊοΈ I chose the winner which is Amy at CREEPSTER! πŸŽ‰πŸ˜€πŸ’œ Congrats, Amy! Please get in touch with me ASAP so I can send you your goodies: Sarah at rocksmanagement dot com!πŸ’œπŸŽƒ

I’ll have a new SFX makeup tonight maybe! The response to the Sweet Spooks series is amazing and I’m so happy you guys are digging this. πŸ’œ Love you!

Tell me, what did you do this weekend? ☺️

Sweet Spooks: ‘Masque of the Red Death’ SFX Run ThroughΒ

Well, I’m still down for the count with my knee injury. πŸ˜”

It seems to be improving, just at a really slow rate right now. Hopefully I’ll be much much better this time next week. Fingers crossed!πŸ€πŸ˜†πŸ€

The last few days I haven’t done much outside of sleeping, but I did find the energy Sunday night to do a SFX makeup! πŸŽ‰

I haven’t done one in a while and I figured I’d work with the mask I had already prepped and the new liquid latex I just bought! ☺️

This was the result:

Overall, effective but not entirely what I had hoped as far as dimension goes. The major issue here was getting that mask to sit flush with my face. Not at all possible as it had very little give and would just pull the latex adhesive off from underneath (serious ouch for me mind you😣).

For as lovely as that mask was to work with in prepping, it was a pain to try to negotiate with on my face. πŸ˜‚β˜ΊοΈ This look would have been way better had I used the elastic band to hold it in place, and worked the edges around that. Which would be possible if! It wasn’t so hard to see once it was on ☺️ lol!

The edging was done with liquid latex and paper towels and quickly turned into a mess as I couldn’t tell how much blood was being added. πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ» yes, this wasn’t the easiest or my best endeavor lol.

Overall, it looked okay, but I would definitely do a few things differently:

  • Use the flimsy plastic masks in prep as those are way more malleable and would probably be easier to adhere.
  • Consider using blackout contacts for things like this- or discover a much better, sheer black fabric for use! ☺️
  • Buildup the edges more and use scab or gel blood to reduce that weird muddling you see on my cheeks there lol

I really love the idea though! And the name seems fitting 😏 (Shout out to EA-Poe!) but I’d approach it a little differently in the future. ☺️

VIDEO:

Not my best work but still a lot of fun! I had the #mask laying about already waxed in red and wanted to test out the new #liquidlatex I bought! Overall, worth it at least for that! ☺️ I also learned that even though these primed thicker #masquerade masks are awesome quality, they don't mold to your face very well at all, and with all the #blood I dripped with limited vision, this just became a soggy, loose fitting mess lol! ☺️ still lots of fun. Thoughts? I'd do this again with one of the light weight flimsy plastic masks for sure. I think it'd sit better and flush with my face a whole lot better. #sfx #specialfx #specialeffects #makeup #beauty #horror #masque #cosmetics #diy #halloween #love #fall #autumn #scary #gore #goreporn #selfie #instavideo #cinderella #disney #disneyside

Scream Saturday & Sweet Spooks

I hope you guys are having a great weekend so far!☺️

Scream Saturday is about to commence!πŸ˜†

image

I’m excited!πŸŽ‰

I also bought a bunch of libation things… ☺️

image

So, speaking of libations (and in the meantime), I thought I’d share some info on this piece I worked on a few weeks ago… When I was drunk.

Lol ☺️ this mask will maybe be used in a near-future makeup! I used a special wax that I may talk about more soon once I know how reliable it is. πŸ˜€

So what do you all think? What are you doing this weekend? Watching any Wes Craven tonight? β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ

Sweet Spooks: Scarecrow SFX Makeup Run Through

I know, I’ve been neglecting you guys. πŸ˜”

I sorry.πŸ’œ

But! To redeem myself for this week, I did a fantastic tutorial from Mykie at Glam & Gore!Β

This one was really easy to do and maybe took a total of 40 minutes! Not too bad. ☺️

image

Modifiers:

  • Black slime by the eyes as I don’t have any gelatin to work with.
  • Elmer’s glue to adhere! ☺️
  • Regular stage/liquid blood for the seams. πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ»

I really loved this makeup, it’s majorly effective and so easy. I was asked on Facebook if this was itchy, and surprisingly no. My only issue was frays and dust from where I cut the fabric getting in my nose and mouth. But! I think it could be fixed if you cut these and shake them out really well beforehand! πŸ˜ŒπŸ‘πŸ»

So, what do you guys think of this one? Thoughts? I also have another SFX thingy to share in a new post! πŸ˜€πŸŽ‰

Blood Bath: World’s First ‘Blood Rave’ to Commence This Halloween

Nope, you did not misread that.

According to all freaky deaky news sources out there, Amsterdam will be home to the world’s first ‘Blood Rave’.😐

Now, I know you find yourself asking what the fuck this even means, so I’ll go ahead and illustrate it in Sarah-Terms☺️:

So… did you ever see that shitty movie about the Vampire hunter who was also a Vampire, but like… if Neo from the Matrix could be a Vampire? It had lots of techno music and Wesley Snipes– Yeah, Blade! That’s it.☺️ Well.. shit’s gonna be like that scene in the beginning.

According to what reputable news sources I’ve read, the blood rave will take place this Halloween and has been deemed 2legit2quit 😏by the Facebook Event page created in its honor.

Thanks for the sarcasm, Blade, this post was missing it.

Thanks for the sarcasm, Blade, this post was missing it.

Now, I typically would absolutely condone this sort of thing and join in myself, as I like blood as much as the next girl, ☺️but this seems like a festering, breeding and feeding ground for vampires, in which case, I’m scared and I’m out.😟 What I also appreciate about this is how low key the promoters are being, they have maintained their anonymity throughout all the press on this because of the sensitive nature of the event.😐

Also, no confirmed word on whether or not real blood will be used, but aforementioned shady promoters are “hoping” they can get a very large supply of the real deal as the sprinkler system they designed for the event has beenΒ  tested with a substance that simulates the real stuff.😐

I’m sorry but that has bright red “Vampire” flags all over it.πŸ˜’

Blade and I are on the same page when it comes to our disdain for vampires... ...I'm a lot less violent though.

Blade and I are on the same page when it comes to our disdain for vampires…
…I’m a lot less violent though.

So, what are your thoughts on this? Would you like to go to a rave to be doused in gallons of blood and made a Snack Pack for vampires that are waiting in the wings? Would you want to see something like this go on Stateside or in your area?☺️

Monstro Venatorum: Vampirology 101

So!

I’ve been in a pretty shitty way over here as my WordPress app has been crashing non-stop. πŸ˜– They updated it and fixed the photo library crashes, which is super great, but now when I try to look at your lovely blog posts in it, it gets the wiggins and flips its shit. Buh… Asinine. πŸ˜’

Anyways! Excuse my short absence. ☺️

I want to start a new series on Monster Hunting (hence the Monstro Venatorum in the title)! πŸ˜ƒ

Fun Fact: If you haven’t noticed already from previous posts, I love all things related to monsters and cryptids! I have mild Sanguivoriphobia which is kinda going to be explained here.😌

So, in this first post, I’d like to introduce my perspective on the study of Vampires, or Vampirology.

Vampirology: My Vested Interest

Now, I used to have a firm belief that Vampires did not exist because the idea was way too outlandish. I mean, let’s think about it for a second…

Seemingly human creatures that stay out of the sun and stalk the night for blood to maintain their immortality?

Yeah, no. πŸ˜’

But my perspective changed when I read Vampires Are by the late Dr. Stephen Kaplan.

Jeez, Lestat, could you be anymore obvious?!

Jeez, Lestat, could you be anymore obvious…

Dr. Kaplan was the first proclaimed Vampirologist and by all intents and purposes, well-deserving of the title. Vampires Are is an obscure book, on an even more obscure subject, that was independently published in 1984. The book documents the first 10 years of Dr. Kaplan’s work at the Vampire Research Center in New York; a center that he founded in 1971 with the help of his colleagues.

The purpose of the Vampire Research Center was to conduct in-depth studies on Vampirology and those who identify as real vampires. Dr. Kaplan’s research was no joke as he wanted serious research, observation, and experimentation only. The center’s specialists included anthropologists, sociologists, hematologists, and psychologists.

Nope- No... Definitely not that kind of research.

Nope- No… Definitely not that kind of research.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Dr. Stephen Kaplan was the one responsible for blowing the lid off the Amityville hoax? He’s responsible for debunking all of the outlandish claims that the Lutzs and Warrens made about the incidences that occurred. This is why I took all of everything I read in Vampires Are as reputable. Dr. Kaplan was a no-nonsense kind of guy. I can appreciate that when it comes to paranormal research!β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘πŸ»

In the 70’s doing research was no easy endeavor as the internet was a super-cool futuristic idea still. Dr. Kaplan posted the center’s number and address in alternative magazines and shared the details of what they were doing in radio and TV interviews. The center received so many letters and phone calls from people who claimed to be creatures of the night but only a small fraction of those individuals actually became case subjects. With that in mind, most of the center’s research was conducted in the field which proved to be somewhat… dangerous at times.

I hear you, Abe, I hear you.

I hear you, Abe, I hear you.

The book details some of the craziest Vampirology case studies I’ve ever come across. It’s one of my favorites even though it gives me the creeps. 😐 In the end, this is what stirred my interest in the subject and since then, I’ve read as many articles, research papers, and books on the subject. πŸ’œI highly recommend checking it out if this piques your interest!

Modern Day Vampirology

Okay, so, now that we all know how my interest became, it’s time to get a handle on modern day Vampirology.

Truth be told, Vampirology is an overlooked and often ignored study, considering how much bunk gets around these days on the subject.πŸ˜”

Too legit to quit right there.

Too legit to quit right there.

I will say that there are still some who take the subject seriously and have conducted substantial research. For instance, my hero Professor John Edgar Browning has written numerous research articles and papers on Vampirology and has a really profound understanding on the theology that directly influences modern day vampire culture. His work really delves more into people who identify as vampires on a philosophical or spiritual level. I really feel this isn’t by choice either as this is really what makes up most of the subject today.

Yeah, the majority of those people fall into what I like to call the

The majority of those people fall into what I like to call the “Don Henrie” category

The truth is that beyond Professor Browning, I haven’t found many other dedicated, reputable Vampirologists. Which is a shame because it really is quite an interesting subject… although one completely cheapened by pop culture.πŸ˜‘

Boooo.πŸ˜’

Peter Vincent totes agrees.

Peter Vincent totes agrees.

What Vampirology is to Me

You may be wondering where my interest in all of this has brought me.

Well, I’m glad you asked!☺️

As of right now, I’m still compiling an opinion on the subject, and to be quite honest, I don’t really know that I’ll ever have a definitive answer for myself.πŸ’¬

Are they real? Are they just a delusion? Or maybe it’s all just some Eastern European hokem told around campfires? πŸ”Ž

I honestly can’t refute any of the above… But I will say that I believe that true Vampirism could possibly be real.

At this point my thirst for knowledge is unyielding, and digging through books and papers and articles is like unraveling some kind of great secretive mystery as so few talk about it from a non-crazy standpoint.πŸ˜‚

I didn't realize real vampires felt so strongly about the issues... like... Twilight... Yes, this is truly what this newscast was about.

I didn’t realize real vampires felt so strongly about the issues… like… Twilight…
Yes, this is truly what this newscast was about.

My interest really relates to the historical and mythical lore that surrounds the bulk of what we know about vampires today, especially when we consider how these myths still relate to modern-day vampires in pop culture.

Truth be told though, if it’s stimulating enough, I’ll typically take interest in it… vampires are no exception.😌

...That too.

…That too.

Bottom line: there’s a lot of unsolved cases in history and nature that make you wonder about what’s really out there. I like to keep an open mind about it, and if that means becoming the Sanguivoriphobic shut-in that I am today, so be it!πŸŽ‰πŸ˜†πŸ‘πŸ»

Revenant repellant.

Revenant repellant. Every damn day.

In the next leg of this series, I’ll get into more detailed cases and other facets of the subject… that’s only if this goes over well with you guys! I won’t get too cray if you all aren’t into it.☺️
So, what are your thoughts on the subject? Are you scared of vampires? Do you think they could exist? Would you like to see more posts on the subject? Do you want book/research recommendations? Let me know! πŸ’œπŸ˜ƒ
