Nefarious News: Grandin Road’s Halloween Haven 2017 Release

I’m certain everyone here has assumed I’m dead. I’m happy to report I am not… If I am, I’m blissfully unaware and can vouch Β that the afterlife is identical to waking life!

I sure have missed Vespertine House and talking to all of my “House Mates” here! I’m pushing myself to get back to casual writing as I’m hoping to incorporate more creative writing into my schedule as well.

Lots of verbiage on my plate.

And I like it. πŸ™‚

In more important news! Today was a truly amazing day as Grandin Road released their 2017 Halloween Haven collection! I got the email and spent the whole day filling my cart and lurking every single item in their range of new decor.

This year the theme is a cross between “The Faces of Halloween” and “Cirque”. There were a lot of stunning circus/carnival themed items. Many are a lovely little nod to the classic sideshow acts of days of yore. Or you know.. the stuff you see at the super shady carnival that rolls through town on a whim. Either way! Bring on the entertainment, baby!

Grandin Road is known for beautiful home decor and offers stylish and unique options for decorating your favorite rooms in the house. They’re a little bit on the pricey side but, girl, they have a store card and, and, and that… that… makes it okay… right?

Moving on! The following are some of my favorite items that are absolute MUST-HAVES for your haunted home this season!

Victorian Busts

So, last year I made my first purchase with Grandin Road and bought the set of masquerade masks complete with pedestals for year-round enjoyment. I wasn’t expecting much really as I figured they would be run-of-the-mill items that would just be a good addition to my ahem, interesting home decor.

I was wrong.

These masks were jaw-dropping. They not only sit around two feet high, but the quality is high enough that I feel like I might get in trouble with some parental figure every time I touch them!

I want to say that the Victorian Busts are probably this year’s version of the masks in the sense that they’re best purchased as a pair even though you buy them separately.

This suffices to say that I think these are so adorable and just creepy enough to keep me interested without feeling uncomfortable when making inadvertent eye contact in passing.

Margaret and Willem are made of sculpted resin and feature intricate details including the fanciest of ribbons ever to be fathomed by man and soft woolen hair.

Talk about blueblood…

Each bust is $79 which may pop your wallet a little, but snatching up something like this would be a 365 investment (aka decor you can display all year round)!

The Skellierina

I have a love for music boxes, add a little goth and you’ve got my new favorite thing.

Admittedly, when I saw this particular item I let out an audible “Ooooh…” and proceeded to gawk before adding it to my cart.

This Skellierina (get it?!) music box is a subtle nod to this year’s Cirque theme that stays true to the classiness of Grandin Road’s finer Halloween Haven decor. Skellierina rotates atop her black pedestal as green lights emanate from beneath her. According to the description, she plays music and is activated with the poke of a button. Which song she plays and how long she plays for is a mystery that only her new owners can solve!

She’ll set you back just a few bucks at $29. Again, this is another item you can keep around the entire year. What better way to commemorate Halloween all 12 months than with a little “tribute to thee” perched upon your mantle?

“Palm Reader” Neon Sign

As someone who’s into everything obscure and strange, it goes without saying that this particular item would be a staple for my haunt this year.

The “Palm Reader” Neon Sign gives off that mysterious back-alley-psychic vibe.

You know… Like the gypsy shop that our hapless protagonist stumbles into from the rain one dark night only to have his fate change forever!

…Or at least until the second movie comes out.

This little beauty screams “come hither” to all your neighbors and will guarantee you the most mystical house on the block.

Pick this up for $79 and call it a day with your decorating this year. Although… you might want to put a few more decor items out just so you don’t get any desperados knocking on your door after hours asking for advice.

Unless you’re into that sort of thing…

If so, I just helped you found your new Psychic Consulting business and on a budget too!

You’re welcome.

Animated Haunted Movie Projector

Every year I watch for the game-changing items debuting this season. I have to say that I was so impressed by this little guy…

The Animated Movie Projector is one of the more unique items I’ve seen in recent years. This animated projector’s reels roll as it projects an eerie vintage scene of a skeleton dancing to The Entertainer.

I can get behind this.

I have yet to see this one in action which makes me a tiny bit hesitant to purchase on release day. I reached out to Grandin Road on Facebook about seeing a product video of this only to find that they currently don’t have that available. I’m hopeful it’ll be added shortly, but if not, I can’t feel too terrible about this prop as it costs a mild $39.

For a truly unique item that brings in a little vintage, whimsy, and horror, definitely pick this up!

Six Arm Lady Shadow Box

This is the final item on my list and maybe my favorite.

This goes back to the whole vintage cirque thing Grandin Road is running with this year. And this displays it in a perfectly macabre way!

The Six Arm Lady Shadow Box displays a beautiful dancing shadow of a Medusaesque figure gently swaying her six arms up and down. This animatronic is downright hypnotic! Grandin Road thankfully added a product video of this item that I love more and more every time I watch it.

If you’re not sold with the projector as a unique Halloween prop, then this one might be the final nail in the coffin for you instead.

This old girl is a bit pricey, and is the most costly item on this list at $149. Fortunately, we can reference the whole store credit card thing again and justify it entirely because… Halloween. πŸ™‚

Screen Shot 2017-07-13 at 11.20.50 PM.png

Every item here counts as everyday decor… at least for yours truly.

Probably why I have no visitors.

Don’t be fooled- this is not the entirety of Grandin Road’s Halloween collection, there are numerous items that I loved and left out. I wanted to share my must-haves and grab your attention enough for you to at least browse their collection. If anything, you’ll be struck with inspiration to create your own little Halloween haven. πŸ™‚

So, spill your guts- what did you think of these items? Which were your faves and which were the knaves? I want to know. I miss you. πŸ™‚

Nefarious Necessities: I Need To Return Some Videotapes…

I would count this as a Look of The Day as well but, I really can’t add much to this to make it better.😍

Shop this "...Lethal, on the verge of frenzy" dress at!

I love it so much.

And I need it.😁

Are you an American Psycho fan? Admittedly Patrick Bateman is my dream-love.πŸ’œ

After Midnight No. 6

I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest and YouTube as of late, due to my Halloween prepping and search for interesting things to share here.

See? I’m always thinking you.β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ

I think this year I really want to take our Halloween decor to the next level by adding more props. As of now, I’ve already decided on a a grand to-do list of static props I want to make for the yard, which includes gravestones and figures.

Fun fact: My ultimate goal in life is to own my own Haunt and scare people near and far… all year round. I’d want it to be the horror equivalent of Disneyworld.πŸŽƒ

I spent 4 hours on YouTube last night looking at Monster Mud videos. Yes, I’m also shocked that interests me to such a degree.πŸ˜‚

I’ve also been pretty into special fx makeup as of late as well. I’d like to up my game on that as well this year and so far, (my Carver makeup was pretty boss) so good.😏

I was on Pinterest and saw these.

I don’t know what it is but the cards are just so aesthetically pleasing to me! 😍 I love both of these makeups. Unfortunately, there are no tutorials but I reckon it’s pretty straightforward and I can just wing it by the looks of things.☺️πŸ’ͺ🏻

I won’t be doing that tonight, but I think tomorrow night’s After Midnight will be devoted to a run through of one of these looks.πŸ˜†πŸŽ‰

What do you guys think? I’m new to this special fx makeup stuff but I’m hoping to learn some great stuff from these DIY tests! Out of these two looks, which should I try? Or should I make up my own from the inspiration found here? Tips? Tricks?

I’m all ears.πŸ’œβ˜ΊοΈ

Look of the Day: Moon Maven

So, today was a bit of a cluster. I went to sleep so late, but I seriously slept the best I slept in a while… I mean… I woke up with a va-va of drool! It was great!😁 Slightly unsettling dreams but I’m willing to look past that considering I feel well-rested today.πŸ’œ Fun Fact: I’m not only a professional insomniac, but I also have Hypnagogia (auditory). Which is certainly on the far more interesting end of the sleep disorder spectrum.πŸ˜€ In other news, I spent most of my day experimenting with nail art techniques and responding to all of the amazing feedback I’ve received on posts in the last 24hrs!πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ I love you all and I hope you like the stuff you see here enough to share with your audience and friends.πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ Anyways, I had intended to share earlier in the day, and even set aside this set last night but just didn’t get to it until now. Forgive me.☺️ We had a gorgeous moon hugging the horizon last night and I felt compelled to share this look with you today. Consider it a tribute to thee, Lady Luna!🌝

LOTD: Moon Maven

Shop this look now at!

I love all things moon-related… especially cheese. But, I do love Moonglow Jewelry nearly as much. I heard about the Moonglow brand from a friend who bought one of their charming necklaces at a Ren Faire. Now, I know you may be thinking: “Well shit, Sarah… these seem pretty plain-jane to me… what’s so special about this, I mean really… I’m bored as fuhhhh.”πŸ˜’

New zodiac copy

I promise, these are anything but boring.😏 Moonglow jewelry is fully customizable so that you can have any moon phase you’d like displayed on your charm. Not only can you customize a piece of jewelry to signify any special occasion in history, but these beautiful pieces also glow in the dark (hence the glow in Moonglow).πŸ‘πŸ» And that alone automatically makes them better than anything else ever!☺️ I have two of these beauties with the waxing 1st quarter highlighted (birth moon; I have two because I won their awesome Facebook contest and I think there was some kind of mix up and they sent two..? Not sure but I’m not complaining) and I just love them. I usually shorten one up and layer a long sweater chain with it.😍

With that all in mind, I hope you visit their website to see all of the beautiful pieces they have to offer! I’d definitely say this is a wonderfully sentimental and unique gift for any lady or dude (they sell cufflinks and men’s rings too!) in your life!☺️

So what did you think? Digging the look? What moon phase were you born under?🌝

After Midnight No. 4

Man… I should use that photo of Lon Chaney from “London After Midnight” for every “After Midnight” post, no?

Fun Fact: The horror enthusiast world is still looking for a surviving copy of the film “London After Midnight”- there’s no known copy of the film available anywhere after the last was destroyed in an MGM vault fire. πŸ”Ž

So, tonight I’m attempting to get to bed at a reasonable hour but got sucked into a few of Lazy Masquerade’s great videos.

It’s only… 4AM. ☺️ Don’t judge.

Anyways, I found a great one featuring trueΒ creepy college horror stories. The first story and the roommate one are just… Bonkers.

In other news, I saw this on Pinterest and had to share.

I really really hope that if you have a fireplace you’re putting different sized pilar candles in it. I’ve always loved that look and I’m definitely going to sleep hoping I wake up in this room. ☺️😴

Any plans for today? 😌

Look of The Day: Maneater

Aren’t you ecstatic that it’s Friday?!πŸŽ‰

Everyone gets excited for the weekend.

Anyways, I love putting together different looks on Polyvore based on my mood. Considering today is Friday and I’m having an abnormally okay day (it’s the blue moon, only once in a blue moon could the full moon swing my mood to a new level of happy), I decided that this is completely suitable.😏

Shop these items now at Polyvore!

I highly recommend taking your Maneater look to the next level with some buttons from Deer Heart! I often covet things on Instagram, @ShopDeerHeart’s stuff is no exception. Love their buttons and adorable magnets. If I were you, I’d snag some of these and pin them to the leg of my favorite leggings for some extra off-the-wall flair. Do it.πŸ˜†

No. 1

The macabre, dark, deviant and strange are words that categorize the most interesting and beautiful things in this universe. Fact.

I think a lot of people would agree with that.

Hi there! I’m Sarah and I have a taste for darker, stranger things. Shamelessly. 😁 I’m bringing this blog to you as a way to share my creepy finds and interests with a wider range of people. As far as tastes go, you can often find me researching something strange or making plans for Halloween.

Yes, regardless of the month or season, I’m nearly always planning for Halloween. ☺️

I want to use this space on the interweb to not only share the things I love but also keep a personal record for future reference. I’m a bit forgetful. 😏

So, to make this quick, here are a few things that you’re guaranteed to see here at some point:

  • Product reviews! (Seasonal Halloween products, makeup, jewelry, services etc!)
  • Top pick lists (oh, I love lists- they’re simple and fun!)
  • Tutorials (I create a lot of things for Halloween parties and just to satisfy my own dark little cravings; I’ll try to share these with you ☺️)
  • Fashion, Art, News & more! (Huzzah! πŸ˜†)

With that said, I hope you’ll stick around and join the conversation! I really look forward to meeting like-minded creepers and can’t wait to pick your brain! Literally…

But really… 😏πŸ”ͺ
