Sweet Spooks: Happy Valentine’s Day

I sincerely hope everyone is having thee best Valentine’s Day!πŸ’œ

Personally, I just woke up, and with a migraine at that so I’m struggling a little bit. πŸ˜”

On the upside! The Valentine’s Day look I promised is here and ready to be loved by you!

Love her, dammit.😏πŸ”ͺ

VIDEO: Upclose look

Backstory: This look is inspired by the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland with a little bit of tragic romance at play. She tried to escape the story and chase her heart’s desire only to end up as a victim of her own doing. Deep shit right? 😌 I know.

I really loved working on this as it was my first original in a long time. I am also so proud of how clean the effects in this look came out. I did such a great job of painting and blending that’s it very near seamless here!πŸ˜€ also, one of a few times when I’ve actually been completely in love with a beauty makeup! I feel the red and gold feathered cheeks are messy and perfect all at once. I just love it. β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œπŸ’œ

PHOTO: The process

To accomplish this look I used Mehron’s Starblend Cake in White to block out her skin in that porcelain color (btw, I’m in LOVE with the Starblend cake as of late. I really need to order several more in other shades because it just paints so freakin’ well!πŸ˜€πŸ’œπŸ’œ), Devinah Cosmetics Eyeshadows in Blazed, #Fierce, Daybreak (two unlabeled copper Browns that make me so sad that I don’t remember which they are 😫) and the Arcadia highlighter, and the lovely bit of gold feathered on the cheeks and used to gradient her lips is a Limited Edition Highlighter from Bitter Lace Beauty called Sweater Weather. For the  SFX stuff, you’re looking at shredded book pages for the under-skin (don’t worry, it was a terrible book πŸ˜‚ and i loved the effect it gave this look!), tissue paper for the ripped skin, two thin layers of wax to hold and give dimension to the two cut playing cards used. I also used a bit of black silicone based slime to add thick dimension to the theatre blood!☺️

So, no, I haven’t yet graduated from using basic powders for SFX makeup, but! I will say that the Mehron is a good start as it’s used mainly as a wet-to-dry, and I’ve learned how to work the opaqueness of the makeup based on water usage. ☺️ In June, for my birthday I’m hoping I will be able to purchase myself one of the PPI Skin Illustrator Pallettes to start using alcohol activated real-deal SFX makeup! πŸ˜ŒπŸ’œ

I think I’m ready for it!

So! I hope you guys like this look! πŸ˜€πŸ’œ I think it’s lovely and is romantic and gruesome enough to make Valentine’s Day completely tolerable. ☺️πŸ”ͺ

Also! If you’re on Twitter be sure to follow me @Sarahseado if you’d like to keep updated with videos of SFX stuff! My LIVE periscope tutorials broadcast on there as well! If you have periscope don’t be shy! Send me your handle so that I can start doing live Vespertine House SFX parties with giveaways n shit! πŸ˜€πŸ’œβ˜ΊοΈ

So tell me, what’re you doing for Valentine’s Day? What did you think of this makeup? What else do you want to see in the future? Love you dearly, and you’re definitely my Valentine today. πŸ˜ŒπŸ’œπŸ”ͺ

That’s a Wrap: Farewell, Wes Craven

Earlier this evening I scrolled through Facebook, flinching every time a MTV Video Music Award article appeared. As I gave up looking for actual news updates, I clicked on the icon that appeared showing that new stories had trickled in. Before leaving my app and closing my folio, I glanced and saw the headlines:

Wes Craven, Horror Movie Maestro, Dies at 76

The steady flow of air in my lungs was suddenly interrupted and my heart sank. I couldn’t believe it.

I still can’t believe it.

Wes Craven’s passing this evening has left me purely saddened. It’s the very same melancholy haze that lingers when you lose someone you love.

I have no connection to Wes Craven- we’ve never even met- but I can’t help but feel heartbroken over his passing as he had such a profound impact on my life.

Wes Craven created some of the things that make me happiest today, and he is solely responsible for my love of horror films.

His signature style can be distinguished immediately in all his films. He was edgy, cool, and had such a polished aesthetic that every up-and-coming director could learn from. Scream was my first romantic spree with genuine horror and it was Craven’s lasting impression that still resonates with me, and so many others, today.

The horror community will have a dismal day as they say farewell to a seminal cinematic figure.

In light of this, I do hope that you find the time to read about the great Wes Craven or watch one of his many classic films. I really think he would love knowing that our send off to him comes in the form of us experiencing the thrills he so beautifully orchestrated on the silver screen for so many years.πŸ’œ

Thank you, Wes, for all the nightmares and screams you shared with us. You’ll be missed.

Saturday Night Spooks: Svengoolie, OTC Halloween, Happy Birthday, Buffy

I slept until close to 5PM today.😴

I know…πŸ˜’

But! In my defense, I didn’t officially start to drowse out until close to 7AM, so there’s that.☺️

As soon as I came into the main house I realized the NEW HALLOWEEN ORIENTAL TRADING COMPANY CATALOG CAME!!!!πŸ˜†πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

Suffice it to say, I shit a Twinkie and thumbed through it making a mental list of all the things I need. Yes, need. Don’t judge.πŸ’©

If you haven’t already heard, OTC has all the sweet deals on party, seasonal, and occasion related items. If you’re throwing a big blowout bash, you need to shop their awesome assortment of decor, favors, cutlery and more. I’m a longtime patron of their goods (I only ever shop for Halloween) and I’ve never been disappointed.πŸ‘πŸ»

Love their stuff! Check out my OTC Halloween Wishlist for this season from their newly listed items!πŸŽƒ

Shop all of these items and WAY more at Orientaltrading.com!

Halloween aside (for now), Svengoolie is on MeTV! They’re showing The Kiss of The Vampire! I love Svengoolie… Those puns tho!❀️😏

In other news, today is a very special day.

On this day in 1992, we were introduced to what would become one of the most iconic female characters in pop culture history.

“Does Elvis talk to you..? Does he tell you to do things– do you see.. spots?”

One of the first movies I ever loved was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I have several memories of it being close to Halloween when I was little and seeing the made-for-tv edit of Buffy come on the local stations, and later acting out scenes from the movie. It was my favorite when I was a kid and probably one of the first movies I ever really loved.πŸ’œ

Many years later, I binged on the Buffy The Vampire Slayer series, which shined a new light on the character and premise. This brings me to the conclusion that Buffy Summers has always, at some point, been an integral heroic figure in my life. And I seriously wouldn’t have it any other way.

Beep-me-buffy

I’m so happy to celebrate the birthday of this film because it really strikes such a nostalgic and personal chord with me. So, Happy birthday, Buffy The Vampire Slayer! You showed me that it’s possible to be girly and tough without sacrificing anything in between! Through you I learned that bravery and courage doesn’t mean you have to always be the winner or hero, but that you just need to stand your ground, show up, and fight for what’s right in order to be a true champion.πŸ’œπŸ’ͺ🏻

Pike:

Pike: “You know, Buffy… you’re not like other girls..”
Buffy: “Yes, I am.”

So, how was your Saturday? Did you get the OTC catalog too today?! What was your fave item from my list? What’s your favorite thing about Buffy? I really love talking to you.β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ

A Friendship Day Tribute

According to the social medias, today is National Friendship Day! Huzzah! πŸŽ‰Not only does this solidify my belief that there’s a day devoted to everything under the moon, but it also inspired me to share a little tribute to friendships everywhere.

Let it be known that I love my friends and I’m sure you do as well, but I also have a few favorite fictional friendships that I think we all can agree exude undying epicness.

Let’s begin.

Ahem…

Friendship is a trip to the mall with your closest pals…

who will always be honest about your fashion choices (#retroyellowleatherjackets4lyfe).

Photo Jul 30, 3 54 30 PM

Friends are for watching movies and getting completely fucked up on a weekday…

regardless of “mandatory” curfews.

Photo Jul 30, 3 56 33 PM

Friends stick around when the going gets tough…

and when the tough get bitey.

Photo Jul 30, 3 55 37 PM

They’ll be there for you…

even when you need to use their Strip Club for “personal business”.

Photo Jul 30, 3 42 39 PM

The best of friends help you conjure the best life possible…

amongst other things.

Photo Jul 30, 3 59 13 PM

And they stick by you through the good and bad…

including nefarious plots to kill your girlfriend.

Photo Jul 30, 3 58 32 PM

Friends are the best thing life has to offer…

and will always be there for you…

Photo Jul 30, 4 00 55 PM

Always.

Happy Friendship Day everyone! Share your favorite on-screen friendships and how they compare to you and your pals!

No. 1

The macabre, dark, deviant and strange are words that categorize the most interesting and beautiful things in this universe. Fact.

I think a lot of people would agree with that.

Hi there! I’m Sarah and I have a taste for darker, stranger things. Shamelessly. 😁 I’m bringing this blog to you as a way to share my creepy finds and interests with a wider range of people. As far as tastes go, you can often find me researching something strange or making plans for Halloween.

Yes, regardless of the month or season, I’m nearly always planning for Halloween. ☺️

I want to use this space on the interweb to not only share the things I love but also keep a personal record for future reference. I’m a bit forgetful. 😏

So, to make this quick, here are a few things that you’re guaranteed to see here at some point:

  • Product reviews! (Seasonal Halloween products, makeup, jewelry, services etc!)
  • Top pick lists (oh, I love lists- they’re simple and fun!)
  • Tutorials (I create a lot of things for Halloween parties and just to satisfy my own dark little cravings; I’ll try to share these with you ☺️)
  • Fashion, Art, News & more! (Huzzah! πŸ˜†)

With that said, I hope you’ll stick around and join the conversation! I really look forward to meeting like-minded creepers and can’t wait to pick your brain! Literally…

Kidding!

But really… 😏πŸ”ͺ
