Sweet Spooks: ‘The Purge’ SFX Tutorial Success

I have been wanting to delve into my makeup all week, but was just a bit too busy.

But last night! Last night was another story!☺️😏

I got home, crashed, woke up, made two pumpkin cookie cakes for my parents and my sister, and a big batch of sugar cookies that I decorated for a friend I’ll be seeing tomorrow. ☺️

I do so love baking.πŸ’œπŸŽƒπŸ’œ

So! After that, I sat and watched Halloweentown with Frankenstein.πŸΆπŸ’œ he loves that movie! ☺️

I decided that the night was young and I could manage to try a makeup before bed!πŸ˜€πŸŽ‰

Now, I went with an all makeup, zero practical effects, paint because I really truly want to improve my makeup and body paint skills. Right now I have zero in that department lol!πŸ˜‚ but, I’m making an effort to try from now on. 😌

Makeup blogger and overall awesome girl, MadeYewLook, has some of the most amazing body paint tutorials ever! πŸ’œ She’s my body paint fave, the way Glam and Gore is my SFX fave.πŸ’œβ˜ΊοΈ

I decided to try her Purge mask makeup tutorial because it didn’t seem that difficult…

Holy shit bombs was I wrong, but the payoff was great😏πŸ”ͺ…

For an extremely intricate makeup that involved a lot of light-play, I think I did okay! I was shocked it came out remotely alright lolπŸ˜‚

I seriously had to go through the process twice because everything just looked so muddled the first time. πŸ˜” I tried to follow her steps to a tee, but they just weren’t applicable for what I was working with. πŸ˜’

I ended up kinda using my own freestyle method on the eyes to get the same effect she had in the end, and also used a darker rose colored lipstick with a light brown blush dusted on top to make the lips pop. ☺️

In the end, it looked fucking crazy lol but in a good way! πŸ˜†πŸŽ‰πŸ”ͺπŸŽƒI could definitely improve, and having a proper array of body paints and colors would most definitely help. β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘πŸ»

I’ll need to have like a Go Fund Me or something to pay for that business. πŸ˜‚β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ

All in all, pretty neat, yeah? πŸ˜€ Share your thoughts because I love you and love it when we talk! πŸ’œ

Til then… Let me purge? πŸ”ͺπŸ˜€πŸ”ͺ

Sweet Spooks: ‘Masque of the Red Death’ SFX Run ThroughΒ

Well, I’m still down for the count with my knee injury. πŸ˜”

It seems to be improving, just at a really slow rate right now. Hopefully I’ll be much much better this time next week. Fingers crossed!πŸ€πŸ˜†πŸ€

The last few days I haven’t done much outside of sleeping, but I did find the energy Sunday night to do a SFX makeup! πŸŽ‰

I haven’t done one in a while and I figured I’d work with the mask I had already prepped and the new liquid latex I just bought! ☺️

This was the result:

Overall, effective but not entirely what I had hoped as far as dimension goes. The major issue here was getting that mask to sit flush with my face. Not at all possible as it had very little give and would just pull the latex adhesive off from underneath (serious ouch for me mind you😣).

For as lovely as that mask was to work with in prepping, it was a pain to try to negotiate with on my face. πŸ˜‚β˜ΊοΈ This look would have been way better had I used the elastic band to hold it in place, and worked the edges around that. Which would be possible if! It wasn’t so hard to see once it was on ☺️ lol!

The edging was done with liquid latex and paper towels and quickly turned into a mess as I couldn’t tell how much blood was being added. πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ» yes, this wasn’t the easiest or my best endeavor lol.

Overall, it looked okay, but I would definitely do a few things differently:

  • Use the flimsy plastic masks in prep as those are way more malleable and would probably be easier to adhere.
  • Consider using blackout contacts for things like this- or discover a much better, sheer black fabric for use! ☺️
  • Buildup the edges more and use scab or gel blood to reduce that weird muddling you see on my cheeks there lol

I really love the idea though! And the name seems fitting 😏 (Shout out to EA-Poe!) but I’d approach it a little differently in the future. ☺️

VIDEO:

Not my best work but still a lot of fun! I had the #mask laying about already waxed in red and wanted to test out the new #liquidlatex I bought! Overall, worth it at least for that! ☺️ I also learned that even though these primed thicker #masquerade masks are awesome quality, they don't mold to your face very well at all, and with all the #blood I dripped with limited vision, this just became a soggy, loose fitting mess lol! ☺️ still lots of fun. Thoughts? I'd do this again with one of the light weight flimsy plastic masks for sure. I think it'd sit better and flush with my face a whole lot better. #sfx #specialfx #specialeffects #makeup #beauty #horror #masque #cosmetics #diy #halloween #love #fall #autumn #scary #gore #goreporn #selfie #instavideo #cinderella #disney #disneyside

After Midnight: The Witch is Back!Β

So, I think it’s been around two weeks since my last post. 😦

I know. I’m awful! 😩

On the upside! I have SO MUCH STUFF TO SHARE! πŸ˜†πŸŽ‰

I’ve been busy with Halloween related things and I promise you’re going to get a kick out of it!☺️

Also! I haven’t forgotten about the vintage tarot book giveaway!πŸ˜€ I did a random shuffle through all the entries and picked a winner! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ more on that in a near future post! ☺️

So, I’m just going to make a quick list of things that have been going on, and I’ll elaborate in separate posts.

  • I had a very wonderful Scream Saturday even though I woke up with a full blown cold the next day and was miserable for a few days thereafter. ☺️ I’m much better now.
  • I’ve delved into prop making and have been doing that for the last week! πŸ˜€πŸ’œ
  • I ordered my Halloween costume! It’s lovely and should be here tomorrow!
  • I have HUGE PLAN CHANGES FOR THIS YEAR’S HALLOWEEN PARTY! You’re going to love the updates on that. β˜ΊοΈπŸŽƒπŸŽ‰
  • I have an awesome Sweet Spooks: SFX coming up once I get some time to do it! β˜ΊοΈπŸ˜†πŸŽ‰ Considered this weekend but I have a huge blemish on my face and I have new prop projects to work on tomorrow! Ah! πŸ˜†πŸŽƒ

What have you been up to lately? Tell me about it. I miss you. πŸ’œπŸ’œ

Scream Saturday & Sweet Spooks

I hope you guys are having a great weekend so far!☺️

Scream Saturday is about to commence!πŸ˜†

image

I’m excited!πŸŽ‰

I also bought a bunch of libation things… ☺️

image

So, speaking of libations (and in the meantime), I thought I’d share some info on this piece I worked on a few weeks ago… When I was drunk.

Lol ☺️ this mask will maybe be used in a near-future makeup! I used a special wax that I may talk about more soon once I know how reliable it is. πŸ˜€

So what do you all think? What are you doing this weekend? Watching any Wes Craven tonight? β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ

Sweet Spooks: Scarecrow SFX Makeup Run Through

I know, I’ve been neglecting you guys. πŸ˜”

I sorry.πŸ’œ

But! To redeem myself for this week, I did a fantastic tutorial from Mykie at Glam & Gore!Β

This one was really easy to do and maybe took a total of 40 minutes! Not too bad. ☺️

image

Modifiers:

  • Black slime by the eyes as I don’t have any gelatin to work with.
  • Elmer’s glue to adhere! ☺️
  • Regular stage/liquid blood for the seams. πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ»

I really loved this makeup, it’s majorly effective and so easy. I was asked on Facebook if this was itchy, and surprisingly no. My only issue was frays and dust from where I cut the fabric getting in my nose and mouth. But! I think it could be fixed if you cut these and shake them out really well beforehand! πŸ˜ŒπŸ‘πŸ»

image

So, what do you guys think of this one? Thoughts? I also have another SFX thingy to share in a new post! πŸ˜€πŸŽ‰

So, get your extra entries in now!

In other news, I’m so honored to have been nominated by the lovely Anna over at Bee Beauty for the Beauty Blogger Award! This is my second blogger award nom and I’m super proud! Thank you, Miss Anna! Go have a peek at Anna’s blog– You can thank me later!πŸ’œ

Here’s my Q&A for this:

  • How long have you been blogging?

Not too long! I’ve been blogging on and off for years, and have failed many times at having a successful blog, lol Vespertine House, however has been remarkably successful and that makes me sublimely happy!πŸ˜ƒ

  • Favorite makeup brand of all time?

Hmm, I’d have to say E.L.F. Cosmetics actually! They’re quite cost effective and I’ve never had issues with their products! They make up the bulk of my foundational cosmetic supplies! I will say that in regards to pigments and the like, MAC and Ulta’s store brand are pretty high up there too! Great selection from them!

  • Favorite beauty blogger/vlogger?

Definitely Mykie at Glam & Gore! I love all of her SFX tutorials and her videos are really just entertaining! She’s awesome.πŸ’œ

  • What’s your favorite type of blog to post?

Hmm, I love doing my “Sweet Spooks” SFX posts! Although, they’re very time consuming what with all the makeuping and all lol. But! They seem to get the most feedback and I love that everyone enjoys them!πŸ’œ

  • What do you enjoy outside of blogging (i.e. hobbies)?

I love to sleep. Haha! That should totally be a hobby as I would be so pro at it! I do needlepoint and I enjoy creative writing when the mood strikes me, as well as painting and music. I actually started writing a book! With chapters and everything! Completely inspired by true events! But I have yet to finish it. I dabble in a lot of things I reckon.☺️

  • Meaning behind your blog name?

“Vespertine House” is supposed to mean a dominion that flourishes in the evening. The word “Vespertine” is an archaic term for “blooming in the late evening, or at dusk”. It’s one that we don’t use anymore but I simply love the word so I brought it back! lol, I added the “house” as it makes it feel more like a closed group and gives it a bit of exclusivity. The same way big fashion houses are called “houses”. I imagine as a whole, the name denotes a close knit group that comes alive after dark. Creepy, no? Yeah, I know you like that. lol😏

  • What inspires you?

Everything! I can be inspired by anything from the people around me to something I see in passing. Typically I get most of my best ideas from staring at the white abyss that is my ceiling above my bed haha.☺️

  • Favorite show?

Hmm, I love Doctor Who and I love BTVS. I spend most nights watching repeats of Night Gallery and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour which is awesome. I’ve also been regularly watching Catfish and Scream on MTV. I guess all of those are my faves!

  • The one thing that makes you happiest in the world?

Hmm, getting a full nights sleep and waking refreshed in the morning lol. It’s a rare, rare thing but when it happens it’s amazing.😁

  • Your best piece of advice to your fellow bloggers?

As someone who’s found several ways NOT to have a successful blog, but finally found the ONE way to have a successful blog, I think the best advice is to write for yourself and write about something you’re really, really into. I’ve written about stuff in the past that I thought I really enjoyed but I lost interest fast or worried that my opinion wasn’t advised well enough. It was a struggle and I failed at it of course. Now that I’ve found a way to vary my interests but still keep them relatively on topic (because i’m actually a weirdo by nature lol), I’ve been successful and have found a great audience of AMAZING people who make me feel humbled about my writing. And that’s the best! So, just write for you and your audience will find you.πŸ’œ

Alright! So! I nominate the following lovely beauty bloggers!

And my questions for you ladies…

  • Pick one Urban Decay or MAC? Which and why?
  • Favorite song right now?
  • Would you rather be famous for your blog or be famous for a talent you have (i.e. singing, dancing, art etc.)? Why
  • If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
  • Would you rather have the closet of your dreams, complete with every Louboutin and Ferragamo in history, or a private makeup studio in your house, complete with every Dior and MAC cosmetic in history? Which would you choose and why?

Sweet Spooks: ‘Bloody Creature Poster Girl’ SFX Makeup

This will probably be the last SpecialFX makeup I do this week as I’m breaking out a little from the scrubbing that goes on afterwards lol.☺️ I have sensitive skin as is, so I’m going to give it a little rest to recover.πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ»

Backstory on ‘Bloody Creature Poster Girl’: This girl is a work in progress and just needs someone to… finish her.😢 As for the name, I immediately thought In This Moment’s Bloody Creature Poster Girl was fitting!πŸ˜€

After my second attempt at burns, I got to thinking of different looks I could create and what else I could try my hand at (mainly for my own amusement, partly because I love reading your reactions to my SFX tests).πŸ’œ

I came up with this look after thinking about what objects I could use in a makeup.

image

I know a lot of makeup artists have used bottles and cans or small blunt objects in their makeups, but I kind of wanted to do something different.😌

image

I really wanted the objects in my makeup to have a practical purpose…😏

It really doesn’t get anymore practical than using pushpins to keep your eyes in place!☺️

image

This makeup took 3 hours to complete mainly because of all the drying needed for the paper pieces.πŸ˜’ I also had to take my time with painting everything as wet foundation makes white glue disobey.πŸ˜‘

Overall, this was a lot more gruesome than I had originally intended for it to be lol!😍

VIDEO:

😢I just want someone to finish me. Tonight's adventure brought me back to paper but I wanted to test out incorporating more objects! πŸ˜€ by far the most #dangerous #makeup I've attempted yet lol. Yes, those are real #pushpins and that's a real needle hanging from the stitches. I will say that it's really hard to work with #elmersglue and #thumbtacks as it doesn't dry as fast as it needs to. Also, I need to move onto #liquidlatex in order to really be able to hide edges without worrying about them peeling up. πŸ˜” this was a good test run though! I like the #depraved direction #sfx makeup is taking me haha. ☺️ I'll try this again in the future probably using wax or putty as the seams would probably be so much cleaner… Or actual latex… That would be good too. β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘πŸ» #halloween #horror #cosmetics #gore #goreporn #specialfx #specialeffects #diy #clinique #ELFcosmetics #wetnwild #scary

I really liked the way the pins, stitches and hanging needle looked but the seams of the paper around the eyes were a mess that I wish could have looked more flush with my skin.πŸ˜’

I really think it may be time for me to consider moving on to liquid latex and scar wax. Latex just works better to hide edges and drys so much faster and scar wax would be perfect for cleaning up this kind of look and making it more fleshy without sacrificing any dimension or depth!☺️

So, what do you think of my Bloody Creature Poster Girl?! ☺️Gross enough? I need ideas for future looks to attempt! If you have any, feel free to share and I’ll make a comprehensive list! Love you all.πŸ’œ
