Scream Saturday & Sweet Spooks

I hope you guys are having a great weekend so far!☺️

Scream Saturday is about to commence!πŸ˜†

I’m excited!πŸŽ‰

I also bought a bunch of libation things… ☺️

So, speaking of libations (and in the meantime), I thought I’d share some info on this piece I worked on a few weeks ago… When I was drunk.

Lol ☺️ this mask will maybe be used in a near-future makeup! I used a special wax that I may talk about more soon once I know how reliable it is. πŸ˜€

So what do you all think? What are you doing this weekend? Watching any Wes Craven tonight? β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ

Sweet Spooks: Scarecrow SFX Makeup Run Through

I know, I’ve been neglecting you guys. πŸ˜”

I sorry.πŸ’œ

But! To redeem myself for this week, I did a fantastic tutorial from Mykie at Glam & Gore!Β

This one was really easy to do and maybe took a total of 40 minutes! Not too bad. ☺️

  • Black slime by the eyes as I don’t have any gelatin to work with.
  • Elmer’s glue to adhere! ☺️
  • Regular stage/liquid blood for the seams. πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ»

I really loved this makeup, it’s majorly effective and so easy. I was asked on Facebook if this was itchy, and surprisingly no. My only issue was frays and dust from where I cut the fabric getting in my nose and mouth. But! I think it could be fixed if you cut these and shake them out really well beforehand! πŸ˜ŒπŸ‘πŸ»

So, what do you guys think of this one? Thoughts? I also have another SFX thingy to share in a new post! πŸ˜€πŸŽ‰

In other news, I’m so honored to have been nominated by the lovely Anna over at Bee Beauty for the Beauty Blogger Award! This is my second blogger award nom and I’m super proud! Thank you, Miss Anna! Go have a peek at Anna’s blog– You can thank me later!πŸ’œ

Here’s my Q&A for this:

  • How long have you been blogging?

Not too long! I’ve been blogging on and off for years, and have failed many times at having a successful blog, lol Vespertine House, however has been remarkably successful and that makes me sublimely happy!πŸ˜ƒ

  • Favorite makeup brand of all time?

Hmm, I’d have to say E.L.F. Cosmetics actually! They’re quite cost effective and I’ve never had issues with their products! They make up the bulk of my foundational cosmetic supplies! I will say that in regards to pigments and the like, MAC and Ulta’s store brand are pretty high up there too! Great selection from them!

  • Favorite beauty blogger/vlogger?

Definitely Mykie at Glam & Gore! I love all of her SFX tutorials and her videos are really just entertaining! She’s awesome.πŸ’œ

  • What’s your favorite type of blog to post?

Hmm, I love doing my “Sweet Spooks” SFX posts! Although, they’re very time consuming what with all the makeuping and all lol. But! They seem to get the most feedback and I love that everyone enjoys them!πŸ’œ

  • What do you enjoy outside of blogging (i.e. hobbies)?

I love to sleep. Haha! That should totally be a hobby as I would be so pro at it! I do needlepoint and I enjoy creative writing when the mood strikes me, as well as painting and music. I actually started writing a book! With chapters and everything! Completely inspired by true events! But I have yet to finish it. I dabble in a lot of things I reckon.☺️

  • Meaning behind your blog name?

“Vespertine House” is supposed to mean a dominion that flourishes in the evening. The word “Vespertine” is an archaic term for “blooming in the late evening, or at dusk”. It’s one that we don’t use anymore but I simply love the word so I brought it back! lol, I added the “house” as it makes it feel more like a closed group and gives it a bit of exclusivity. The same way big fashion houses are called “houses”. I imagine as a whole, the name denotes a close knit group that comes alive after dark. Creepy, no? Yeah, I know you like that. lol😏

  • What inspires you?

Everything! I can be inspired by anything from the people around me to something I see in passing. Typically I get most of my best ideas from staring at the white abyss that is my ceiling above my bed haha.☺️

  • Favorite show?

Hmm, I love Doctor Who and I love BTVS. I spend most nights watching repeats of Night Gallery and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour which is awesome. I’ve also been regularly watching Catfish and Scream on MTV. I guess all of those are my faves!

  • The one thing that makes you happiest in the world?

Hmm, getting a full nights sleep and waking refreshed in the morning lol. It’s a rare, rare thing but when it happens it’s amazing.😁

  • Your best piece of advice to your fellow bloggers?

As someone who’s found several ways NOT to have a successful blog, but finally found the ONE way to have a successful blog, I think the best advice is to write for yourself and write about something you’re really, really into. I’ve written about stuff in the past that I thought I really enjoyed but I lost interest fast or worried that my opinion wasn’t advised well enough. It was a struggle and I failed at it of course. Now that I’ve found a way to vary my interests but still keep them relatively on topic (because i’m actually a weirdo by nature lol), I’ve been successful and have found a great audience of AMAZING people who make me feel humbled about my writing. And that’s the best! So, just write for you and your audience will find you.πŸ’œ

Alright! So! I nominate the following lovely beauty bloggers!

And my questions for you ladies…

  • Pick one Urban Decay or MAC? Which and why?
  • Favorite song right now?
  • Would you rather be famous for your blog or be famous for a talent you have (i.e. singing, dancing, art etc.)? Why
  • If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
  • Would you rather have the closet of your dreams, complete with every Louboutin and Ferragamo in history, or a private makeup studio in your house, complete with every Dior and MAC cosmetic in history? Which would you choose and why?

Sweet Spooks: Wither, Blister, Burn + Peel SFX Makeup

This past week I posted an open-invite for a Monster Makeup Night at my house on Saturday. I wanted to get some friends in for some drinks and to use their faces for practicing SFX makeups.πŸŽ‰

Open invite for this weekend! Only one of my 3 friends showed up... Did I mention I'm extremely popular?! ^_^

Open invite for this weekend! Only one of my 3 friends showed up…
Did I mention I’m extremely popular?! ^_^

Fortunately, at least one of my friends wanted to partake lol.☺️

My favorite friend, Alisha guinea piggied for me as I ran my first experiment with burned flesh!πŸ˜€

I was pretty excited even though the technique I used is a bit daunting and complicated as I haven’t been using professional SFX makeup, just basic Drug Store makeup and household items. πŸ˜’ This really requires a lot of editing to get the right amount of dimension.

I think this came out okay for a first attempt but it was nowhere near where I wanted it to be aesthetically.😐

Note: The design I had originally included a loose ribbon appearing to be laced through the opening skin and coming undone at the bottom.πŸ˜ƒ

I forgot to buy ribbon.πŸ˜”

A few problems including hitting it with too much black from the get go which muddled any other colors I tried to add to it.πŸ˜’

I know now!πŸ˜€

For the future!πŸ˜ƒ

But, in the end, it didn’t look so bad.☺️

Well, I mean it looks bad but in a good way.😏

Alisha was super excited when she saw the final look and really loved the finished result! And I think that’s really all that matters.πŸ’œ

So, what do you guys think? I might try this again on myself if anyone’s interested in seeing a Two-Face inspired look?😌

Sweet Spooks: ‘See Sick’ SFX Makeup Run Through

SO! ☺️

I had an interesting fucking time doing this lol. πŸ˜‚

Backstory onΒ See Sick:Β I feel like this is the after effect of some terrible disease where the infected grow pale and veiny and wind up going crazy eventually gouging out their eyes to try to stop seeing the hallucinations they’re plagued with due to fever. ☺️ Aside from the ill effects, they remain lucid and contagious and prone to dangerously aggressive fits. 😏πŸ”ͺ

I will say that I really love the final product but there were a number of issues getting there.

The biggest problems were with the glue and with seeing through the patches I made.Β  The glue took FOREVER TO DRY or at least that’s what it seemed like when I was trying to keep things moving. Also, second issue involving glue was the fact that it kept getting in my eyes causing tears to run into the paper which yucked things up a bit too. πŸ˜’

I was about ready to give up but thankfully placing the patches wasn’t too hard and I hit the home stretch. β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘πŸ»

My favorite thing was seeing how awesome this looked even before adding the red to the edges. πŸ˜€

The only thing missing, of course, was liquid and gel blood! πŸ˜– Grr, I’m going to need to stockpile that stuff if I keep doing these SFX makeups lol. 😁

One thing I also loved was the veiny texture I was able to add after seeing Glam and Gore’s awesome bruise tutorial.

I used the same technique sparingly to add the veiny effect around my mouth, neck and chest.β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ

So, what are your thoughts on this? Would you all want a tutorial on this or on another make

up in the future? Let me know! β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Sweet Spooks: DIY Love Laceration Makeup Run Through

Well, I loved the concept of the cards lodged in the face and went ahead and created my version involving pieces of a psychotic love letter lodged in the face. ☺️

Yeah, I’ve got issues. 😏πŸ”ͺπŸ’”

So, this is what I came up with on my own using what I had on hand (lipstick, paper towels, card stock, white glue, lots of eyeshadow). image Let me just say that I was proud of my attempt but man was this difficult to really pull off without putty or liquid/gel blood. πŸ˜– Touching up and blending was a careful game of skill as things would bend and one piece ripped off entirely and had to be reapplied. πŸ˜’

But, I will say that I had a ton of fun trying! ☺️ πŸŽ‰

I think I’d give this another go if I had some blood mixed and putty.. Or some cheesecloth. It’d also be great to work on someone else’s face so I could get in depth with all the edges.

πŸ˜€ Overall, a C on my part, but a total A for effort! 😌

So, what do you think? What products would you recommend for this? What other make ups should I attempt? β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ

After Midnight No. 6

I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest and YouTube as of late, due to my Halloween prepping and search for interesting things to share here.

See? I’m always thinking you.β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ

I think this year I really want to take our Halloween decor to the next level by adding more props. As of now, I’ve already decided on a a grand to-do list of static props I want to make for the yard, which includes gravestones and figures.

Fun fact: My ultimate goal in life is to own my own Haunt and scare people near and far… all year round. I’d want it to be the horror equivalent of Disneyworld.πŸŽƒ

I spent 4 hours on YouTube last night looking at Monster Mud videos. Yes, I’m also shocked that interests me to such a degree.πŸ˜‚

I’ve also been pretty into special fx makeup as of late as well. I’d like to up my game on that as well this year and so far, (my Carver makeup was pretty boss) so good.😏

I was on Pinterest and saw these.

I don’t know what it is but the cards are just so aesthetically pleasing to me! 😍 I love both of these makeups. Unfortunately, there are no tutorials but I reckon it’s pretty straightforward and I can just wing it by the looks of things.☺️πŸ’ͺ🏻

I won’t be doing that tonight, but I think tomorrow night’s After Midnight will be devoted to a run through of one of these looks.πŸ˜†πŸŽ‰

What do you guys think? I’m new to this special fx makeup stuff but I’m hoping to learn some great stuff from these DIY tests! Out of these two looks, which should I try? Or should I make up my own from the inspiration found here? Tips? Tricks?

I’m all ears.πŸ’œβ˜ΊοΈ
