Nefarious News: R.L. Stine & Fox Producing 3 “Fear Street” Movies

That fucking headline says it all!

Can you tell i’m excited? πŸ™‚

I heard the news last night via the Twitter grapevine.

Screen Shot 2017-07-18 at 8.56.02 AM.png

This moment was so long overdue! My sister and I have been pondering the greatest question in life for years: “Why the fuck haven’t they made a ‘Fear Street’ movie?!”, and finally it’s come to be. Three times over!

My reaction was of course subtle.

Screen Shot 2017-07-18 at 8.56.21 AM.png

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is being written and directed by Leigh Janiak, the director of the indie horror flickΒ Honeymoon. Apparently the idea was in the works some time ago as there was a script written… somewhere… catching dust. Needless to say, Fox is going full force with the project now and in a big way. The studio is demanding that all three of the films be completed by Janiak back to back, with release dates in the span of a few months of each other.

This is a pretty hefty job if Fox is insistent on that time table.

But, details are sure to change as this project is lifted off the ground. The movies are still in pre-production and anything could happen in these early stages! I just hope that these aren’t cranked out without any regard for the quality.

I mean, this is Fear Street we’re talking about.

perfect-date-r-l-stine-paperback-cover-art

Now my biggest question is what three books they’re going to be choosing for the films. I have a sneaking suspicion it’s going to be one of the trilogies…

Maybe Cheerleaders?

junk2

Maybe the Saga books?

enhanced-buzz-orig-10529-1371682725-8

Who knows! Even though those trilogies spanned into the realm of “sagas” after a while, It’s still a definite possibility. I can’t fucking wait for more details to emerge! πŸ™‚

So, tell me: Are you excited to see a Fear Street movie? Which books were your faves and which do you hope they’ll adapt? Also, who should be the main players??

Until next time!

That’s a Wrap: Farewell, George Romero

I spent my Sunday watching home haunt documentaries, that I fully intended to write-up on Vespertine House this evening. At some point in the last one I watched, I found myself rolling my eyes at yet another zombie-themed haunt.

I then had a moment of reflection on the modern-day zombie renaissance we’ve had the last few years. It seems that everywhere you look there are zombies.

We see them shambling out of the Halloween and Horror niches and into everyday life. They’ve invaded our television sets, music, fashion, games– even quirky bumper stickers have a booming zombie-loving demographic. Ultimately I shook my head and murmured “people and their fucking zombies”.

Of all days to have such a thought, it had to be the day that the father of the modern-day zombie passed away.

From what started as Barbara’s screams in an old cemetery in 1968, and ended with another Trixie virus outbreak in 2010, George Romero proved again and again that he could orchestrate zombie fear amongst the masses with the utmost finesse.

Romero adapted the zombie creature and its origins to fit a more modern-day audience. His concept was far removed from the original Voodoo zombie seen in classic Horror films like “I Walked With a Zombie”. His formula has stood the test of time as it’s applied in the majority of the zombie Horror we see today.

I’m happy to say that I learned a lot about good cinema from watching his films. I also learned that it’s good to not be serious about everything all the time and that you can absolutely serve up your Horror with a side of fun.

It’s with a sad keystroke that I say goodbye to yet another film legend. But I’m happy to know that he will never be forgotten.

So, the next time a zombie shuffles across a silver screen or a protagonist nervously discovers that a strange virus is bringing the dead back to life, smile and think of George. His greatest gift is the incredible Horror legacy that he’s left us with.

Damon Salvatore: A Tribute To Thee

I’m feeling nostalgic.

I’m not sure if you watched The Vampire Diaries but I can assure you that regardless of that, you’ll still be utterly enamored with the man in this post.πŸ€“

I was heartbroken when the series ended a few months ago. I mean, we’re talking ugly-cried during the finale and had serious withdrawals for a few weeks.

Don’t judge me. 😌

I’d like to think my heartbreak was justified as the series was very well written. We’re not necessarily talking Oscar-worthy or life-changing, but it was written and produced by one of my favorite screenwriters: Kevin Williamson.

Yes! The same Kevin Williamson who wrote the Scream movies and had a hand in many of my other favorite teen-screams from the 90s.

I was urged to watch TVD midway through the series solely so that I could join the urger in regular viewing and discussion once caught up. I reluctantly gave it a chance, a big selling point being my faith in K-Wills writing.

Holy shit balls did I get hooked.

I wouldn’t say obsessed but I definitely hung on every single episode. This was intensified when he was introduced… yes, Damon Salvatore. ❀️

tumblr_mdld3apn7h1rpp221o1_500

Sure, sure, I know you’re sitting there thinking “This bitch is crazy- what’s the big deal? Looks like a douche to me πŸ˜’“, in which case my response is yes, you’re 95% correct with that statement as I damn well may be a crazy bitch and Damon is definitely a douche.

Definitely….

A douche…

Definitely.

Don’t get me wrong! I thought he was useless for a good little while, but even I succumbed to his charms…

tumblr_nmjwl7gh5i1sghe4oo1_500

So, let’s note right now that our oldest Salvatore bro was a pretty huge jerk most of the series, but after a while, in a weird way, it started to grow on me.

That snark and blasΓ© attitude was everything. I can directly relate in that sense… I also appreciated his ability to down 5 gallons of Bourbon per episode without anyone really saying anything about it.

He’s by far the sexiest high-functioning alcoholic vampire in all of tv land. That would make for an interesting episode of Intervention, no? πŸ˜€

After being reminded of Ian Smolder-holder’s ability to portray Damon in the most perfect manner this week by a colleague of mine, I felt compelled (get it?! No? TVD joke…πŸ€“) to put this post into the universe in hopes that it spawns a parallel world in which Damon is a real-life, corporeal heartthrob, taking names and ruining lives one small town at a time! 😍

Without further ado, here’s my list of lovable quirks that made Damon Damon.

Let’s begin, yes?

His wonderful communication skills.

He knows a thing or two about love. ❀️

He knows his brother extremely well.

Also, very much a family man.

He’ll always save you a seat.

He’s an adamant bookworm… πŸ“š

And is up-to-date with all the new releases.

He takes care of himself…

For the most part.

An excellent friend..

Always willing to do you a favor.

He knows just what to do to make you laugh.

He’ll always keep your heart close. 😍

Now, if you’ve been sold just a little, I’ll urge you now to hop on Netflix and binge the series at your own risk. Here, “At your own risk” means that you may or may not fall in love with the show and ugly-cry when it’s all said and done. 😭

I’ll be here for support, Love.

Regardless, here’s to you Damon- and every smile, tear, laugh, scoff and gawk you’ve provided me through those amazing seven seasons. Shout out to all the fantasies and blue-eyed/leather-jacket clad dream visits i’ve received since first meeting you. 😏

Now, I want to know: Did you watch The Vampire Diaries? If so, who were your favorite characters and why? If not, are you interested now? Or have I simply piqued your Smolderholder appetite? In which case… yes, girl, yes. Β

I leave you with a little sight for your sore eyes. 😏

Until next time! πŸ™‚

Monstro Venatorum: Vampirology 101

So!

I’ve been in a pretty shitty way over here as my WordPress app has been crashing non-stop. πŸ˜– They updated it and fixed the photo library crashes, which is super great, but now when I try to look at your lovely blog posts in it, it gets the wiggins and flips its shit. Buh… Asinine. πŸ˜’

Anyways! Excuse my short absence. ☺️

I want to start a new series on Monster Hunting (hence the Monstro Venatorum in the title)! πŸ˜ƒ

Fun Fact: If you haven’t noticed already from previous posts, I love all things related to monsters and cryptids! I have mild Sanguivoriphobia which is kinda going to be explained here.😌

So, in this first post, I’d like to introduce my perspective on the study of Vampires, or Vampirology.

Vampirology: My Vested Interest

Now, I used to have a firm belief that Vampires did not exist because the idea was way too outlandish. I mean, let’s think about it for a second…

Seemingly human creatures that stay out of the sun and stalk the night for blood to maintain their immortality?

Yeah, no. πŸ˜’

But my perspective changed when I read Vampires Are by the late Dr. Stephen Kaplan.

Jeez, Lestat, could you be anymore obvious?!

Jeez, Lestat, could you be anymore obvious…

Dr. Kaplan was the first proclaimed Vampirologist and by all intents and purposes, well-deserving of the title. Vampires Are is an obscure book, on an even more obscure subject, that was independently published in 1984. The book documents the first 10 years of Dr. Kaplan’s work at the Vampire Research Center in New York; a center that he founded in 1971 with the help of his colleagues.

The purpose of the Vampire Research Center was to conduct in-depth studies on Vampirology and those who identify as real vampires. Dr. Kaplan’s research was no joke as he wanted serious research, observation, and experimentation only. The center’s specialists included anthropologists, sociologists, hematologists, and psychologists.

Nope- No... Definitely not that kind of research.

Nope- No… Definitely not that kind of research.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Dr. Stephen Kaplan was the one responsible for blowing the lid off the Amityville hoax? He’s responsible for debunking all of the outlandish claims that the Lutzs and Warrens made about the incidences that occurred. This is why I took all of everything I read in Vampires Are as reputable. Dr. Kaplan was a no-nonsense kind of guy. I can appreciate that when it comes to paranormal research!β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘πŸ»

In the 70’s doing research was no easy endeavor as the internet was a super-cool futuristic idea still. Dr. Kaplan posted the center’s number and address in alternative magazines and shared the details of what they were doing in radio and TV interviews. The center received so many letters and phone calls from people who claimed to be creatures of the night but only a small fraction of those individuals actually became case subjects. With that in mind, most of the center’s research was conducted in the field which proved to be somewhat… dangerous at times.

I hear you, Abe, I hear you.

I hear you, Abe, I hear you.

The book details some of the craziest Vampirology case studies I’ve ever come across. It’s one of my favorites even though it gives me the creeps. 😐 In the end, this is what stirred my interest in the subject and since then, I’ve read as many articles, research papers, and books on the subject. πŸ’œI highly recommend checking it out if this piques your interest!

Modern Day Vampirology

Okay, so, now that we all know how my interest became, it’s time to get a handle on modern day Vampirology.

Truth be told, Vampirology is an overlooked and often ignored study, considering how much bunk gets around these days on the subject.πŸ˜”

Too legit to quit right there.

Too legit to quit right there.

I will say that there are still some who take the subject seriously and have conducted substantial research. For instance, my hero Professor John Edgar Browning has written numerous research articles and papers on Vampirology and has a really profound understanding on the theology that directly influences modern day vampire culture. His work really delves more into people who identify as vampires on a philosophical or spiritual level. I really feel this isn’t by choice either as this is really what makes up most of the subject today.

Yeah, the majority of those people fall into what I like to call the

The majority of those people fall into what I like to call the “Don Henrie” category

The truth is that beyond Professor Browning, I haven’t found many other dedicated, reputable Vampirologists. Which is a shame because it really is quite an interesting subject… although one completely cheapened by pop culture.πŸ˜‘

Boooo.πŸ˜’

Peter Vincent totes agrees.

Peter Vincent totes agrees.

What Vampirology is to Me

You may be wondering where my interest in all of this has brought me.

Well, I’m glad you asked!☺️

As of right now, I’m still compiling an opinion on the subject, and to be quite honest, I don’t really know that I’ll ever have a definitive answer for myself.πŸ’¬

Are they real? Are they just a delusion? Or maybe it’s all just some Eastern European hokem told around campfires? πŸ”Ž

I honestly can’t refute any of the above… But I will say that I believe that true Vampirism could possibly be real.

At this point my thirst for knowledge is unyielding, and digging through books and papers and articles is like unraveling some kind of great secretive mystery as so few talk about it from a non-crazy standpoint.πŸ˜‚

I didn't realize real vampires felt so strongly about the issues... like... Twilight... Yes, this is truly what this newscast was about.

I didn’t realize real vampires felt so strongly about the issues… like… Twilight…
Yes, this is truly what this newscast was about.

My interest really relates to the historical and mythical lore that surrounds the bulk of what we know about vampires today, especially when we consider how these myths still relate to modern-day vampires in pop culture.

Truth be told though, if it’s stimulating enough, I’ll typically take interest in it… vampires are no exception.😌

...That too.

…That too.

Bottom line: there’s a lot of unsolved cases in history and nature that make you wonder about what’s really out there. I like to keep an open mind about it, and if that means becoming the Sanguivoriphobic shut-in that I am today, so be it!πŸŽ‰πŸ˜†πŸ‘πŸ»

Revenant repellant.

Revenant repellant. Every damn day.

In the next leg of this series, I’ll get into more detailed cases and other facets of the subject… that’s only if this goes over well with you guys! I won’t get too cray if you all aren’t into it.☺️
So, what are your thoughts on the subject? Are you scared of vampires? Do you think they could exist? Would you like to see more posts on the subject? Do you want book/research recommendations? Let me know! πŸ’œπŸ˜ƒ

After Midnight No. 7

So, I’m here getting caught up on Scream epis and I have to say, the plot is thickening! 😏πŸ”ͺ

So, far I’m really enjoying the series now, especially considering a few people have been knocked off and things are really hitting who-done-it pace!

I honestly think the blogger/podcast lady is behind it in some way. I’m watching the new epi and…

SPOILERS AHEAD

Even though Will was shived by the masked murderer and kidnapped with blogger lady there, I think she still has had something to do with it. Completely possible considering how the movies played out with their false leads and shit. ☺️ until she dies, I’m not convinced it’s not her.

Again, still watching the epi so she could get scragged before the night is through and I’ll be out of ideas once again lol.

So, are any of you watching this show as well? Thoughts? Who do you think the killer is?!

Sweet Spooks: Nip/Tuck Carver Makeup Tutorial Success, Nailart Part Deux

Last night I passed out around 7 or 8PM and woke up around 10PM with a migraine brewing.

If you’re a fellow migraine sufferer, you know the struggle.πŸ˜”

So, I took Excedrin and was subsequently wired for several hours thereafter.

Fun fact: I don’t consumer caffeine in any form. I don’t drink coffee or colas with caffeine in them. The only soda I drink is citrus stuff like Sprite, so when I do get caffeine in me (like from a dose of Excedrin) I flip my shit and start to get really… really.. uncomfortably weird.😳

I decided to go ahead and try a makeup tutorial I’ve been wanting to attempt for a long while.

Beeisforbeeauty does some pretty epic shit with makeup on Youtube. I have several of her tutorials pinned to one of my many Halloween themed boards on Pinterest. This one in particular I’ve been eyeing for a while.πŸ”ͺ

So, I gave this a go and modified a little to compensate for the stuff I don’t have: Liquid Latex and fake blood. My DIY hacks included using white glue instead of the latex and a bit of watered-down lipstick from my personal collection of blood red shades.β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘πŸ»πŸŽ‰

All in all I think it turned out pretty great!πŸ”ͺπŸ”ͺπŸ”ͺ

image

Believe it or not but this was extremely easy to complete successfully… and fairly quick to throw together. I found this extremely aesthetically pleasing… I’m weird like that.

The hardest part was closing the safety pins, but it got easier as I went along.πŸ‘πŸ»

All the commentary on this was positive too! One of my friends even suggested doing a Black Dahlia costume for Halloween, which I think is genius.πŸŽƒ

So, if you’re looking for inspiration for Halloween, definitely give this a try!😏

I also bought some nail art brushes yesterday at Ulta, and they’re really great. I learned that polish quality really makes the difference as well. I redid my Scream Nails, and they were much easier to work with… even though my art skills will need some polishing still. But! It’s a start!☺️

Yes, that's a little phone on the ring finger!

Yes, that’s a little phone on the ring finger!

What do you think? Better attempt this time? What did you think of the makeup?!πŸ’œβ˜ΊοΈ

Saturday Night Spooks: Svengoolie, OTC Halloween, Happy Birthday, Buffy

I slept until close to 5PM today.😴

I know…πŸ˜’

But! In my defense, I didn’t officially start to drowse out until close to 7AM, so there’s that.☺️

As soon as I came into the main house I realized the NEW HALLOWEEN ORIENTAL TRADING COMPANY CATALOG CAME!!!!πŸ˜†πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

Suffice it to say, I shit a Twinkie and thumbed through it making a mental list of all the things I need. Yes, need. Don’t judge.πŸ’©

If you haven’t already heard, OTC has all the sweet deals on party, seasonal, and occasion related items. If you’re throwing a big blowout bash, you need to shop their awesome assortment of decor, favors, cutlery and more. I’m a longtime patron of their goods (I only ever shop for Halloween) and I’ve never been disappointed.πŸ‘πŸ»

Love their stuff! Check out my OTC Halloween Wishlist for this season from their newly listed items!πŸŽƒ

Shop all of these items and WAY more at Orientaltrading.com!

Shop all of these items and WAY more at Orientaltrading.com!

Halloween aside (for now), Svengoolie is on MeTV! They’re showing The Kiss of The Vampire! I love Svengoolie… Those puns tho!❀️😏

In other news, today is a very special day.

On this day in 1992, we were introduced to what would become one of the most iconic female characters in pop culture history.

“Does Elvis talk to you..? Does he tell you to do things– do you see.. spots?”

One of the first movies I ever loved was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I have several memories of it being close to Halloween when I was little and seeing the made-for-tv edit of Buffy come on the local stations, and later acting out scenes from the movie. It was my favorite when I was a kid and probably one of the first movies I ever really loved.πŸ’œ

giphy

Many years later, I binged on the Buffy The Vampire Slayer series, which shined a new light on the character and premise. This brings me to the conclusion that Buffy Summers has always, at some point, been an integral heroic figure in my life. And I seriously wouldn’t have it any other way.

Beep-me-buffy

I’m so happy to celebrate the birthday of this film because it really strikes such a nostalgic and personal chord with me. So, Happy birthday, Buffy The Vampire Slayer! You showed me that it’s possible to be girly and tough without sacrificing anything in between! Through you I learned that bravery and courage doesn’t mean you have to always be the winner or hero, but that you just need to stand your ground, show up, and fight for what’s right in order to be a true champion.πŸ’œπŸ’ͺ🏻

Pike:

Pike: “You know, Buffy… you’re not like other girls..”
Buffy: “Yes, I am.”

So, how was your Saturday? Did you get the OTC catalog too today?! What was your fave item from my list? What’s your favorite thing about Buffy? I really love talking to you.β˜ΊοΈπŸ’œ
